I have a debt with this game... never played it. But I think the hype and bad marketing has ruined the release of the game. I tried to buy a few months ago and it was to expansive, so is not shit really.
The problem with the game we know well: Konami. A few more months will be the detail to release a better polished product.
I really loved this game. I even warmed up to the damn Korn theme (which I hated at first).
I thought the story was awesome, the characters were great (though a couple could have used a bit more development honestly). I enjoyed the radio songs you could listen to, the weather system, the more open world feeling.
Plus I know a couple people who worked on it and it was interesting getting some insight on the development (though the amount of good things were limited it seems sadly).
This year I'm going to play through the entire series again for the Halloween season. I really look forward to replaying this one.
Happy birthday Downpour. You definitely deserved better and the series deserves more amazing sequels.

I've always thought the OST was pretty good overall, in fact I rank it higher than a lot of the Yamaoka ones, although Danny boy could've come up with some better track titles if I can be completely honest. "Downpour Intro", really?
Thing about licht is he seems to name tracks on a surface-level depth, associating them with a scene or moment of the game. It's a very uninspired way of naming your compositions. But some artists just work that way I guess.
01 - Silent Hill (by Jonathan Davis) 02 - Intro Perp Walk 03 - In the Ravine 04 - Bus to Nowhere 05 - Meet JP 06 - Stalking for Dinner 07 - Don't go in the Basement 08 - Railcar Ride 09 - Downpour Intro 10 - Jump Monster 11 - Monastic Tendencies 12 - Clowning around with Monsters 13 - Welcome to Devil's Pit 14 - Basement Fight 15 - Cablehouse Blues 16 - Town Rain 17 - The Caverns 18 - Monastery Otherworld 19 - The Downpour
It's fine I guess. But if you asked someone what they thought of "Basement Fight", they might have to pause to recall the music from the game.
Yet if you asked someone their thoughts on "Breeze in Monochrome Night" or "Ordinary Vanity" they might not have the same struggle.
Of course Yamaoka himself sometimes also keeps it simple (Forest from 2 and many others), but Licht's entire style (even on the Dexter soundtracks) was to tie the track name to a scene or moment in a blunt and uncreative way.
It sucks, but oh well.
The music itself is alright anyway.
I fell in love at first but over time I have definitely fallen out of love with it. I dunno...it just doesn't have the depth that Yamaoka infuses into his work. I'm not saying Licht is bad, I'm saying his work is, over time, unmemorable (or as Matt from Two Best Friends would say, Licht is unrememberable)
And I'm also glad people are saying good things about his OST. He had huge shoes to fill after Akira left and I think he did a really great job. I felt he did his own thing while staying true to Akira's style.
But as stated above, Akira's work sticks. A lot of Downpour's music didn't for me despite my love of it. Though I LOVE the intro walk music. It was beautiful.
It's hard to believe it's been five years. I've only played it once and never got a chance to play it again. I still remember following the news when it was revealed. The game is definitely flawed and handled open world poorly, but it had a good atmosphere. I loved the idea of stormy weather and the music used was pretty good if I remember correctly. "I Wanted A Lover, I Needed A Friend" and "I'm Afraid Of Storms" are the two that stuck with me after playing. I'd like to give this one a chance again someday.
Happy birthday Downpour currently flying a lone flag for Silent Hill on the xbox one. I also love those radio songs, Anna Ternheim's Off The Road and Doves' cover of Willow's Song are majestic, and exactly the kind of tunes I'd expect to hear playing in town. The Licht soundtrack is fine, more so given the size of the boots he had to fill, though it peaks early for me with Intro Perp Walk.I'm gonna give the game another spin v soon, as a counterpoint to having to kill everything in sight for SH2's 10 stars I'll be trying the 'kill nowt' playthrough.
