Why do you love or hate Downpour so much? * spoilers *

Welcome to the forum, Royal Fizzbin! And great to see you liked, but didn't love Downpour.

As for it not being scary. That could be down to being desensitized! It didn't scare me, but I had great "FUCK!" utterances when the doors slammed shut when I wasn't expecting it.
I still find it incredible that if they had said when it was released "And that's 'yer lot! There's going to be no Silent Hill games for the PS3 after this." I wouldn't have believed them!
Who would?

Oh yeah, there was that as well. Er... OK. Last original and new Silent Hill title for the PS3!

Thanks, and yeah, not to derail the thread but the PS2 was a fantastic system for Silent Hill titles (SH2-4 plus the ports of Origins and Shattered Memories). Sucks that the franchise didn’t get the same level of love and attention in the PS3 years. The future on the current gen don’t look good either, but it is entirely up to Konami.

But back on topic, the climax of the Telltale Heart mission managed to genuinely scare me. I also really liked the eerie atmosphere of the Hansel and Gretel theatrical set come to life.

Dreadful, clunky and subpar gameplay, with not enough atmosphere or good enough story to make up for it . A mess

I believe Downpour lighting really hurt it as well. jam6i posted a video before about a darkness glitch that makes Downpour look a lot more ominous.

The game looks and feels so much better in the darkness.

I've always thought Silent Hill needed more day/night transitions.

Yeah the game could have benefited greatly if it used the right type of darkness for it's night transitions. Just alot of blue/gry palettes (homecoming suffered from this too). Thing is...Downpour implemented the dark theme inside of buildings and basements which looked great and the camera angle when Murph opened the door was a nice touch as well...

That looks amazing. Reminds me a lot of SH2 after the hospital. This would have been awesome in Downpour.

Loved the storms though.

I may repeat things already said in this topic, but:

When I first played DP I was expecting something very awful (Silent Hill Homecoming) but I was pleasantly surprised. Of course this game has flaws like glitches etc. And some characters had no real purpose than just to being there and telling Murphy what to do. A little bit of story attached to them would've been nice! Or just stick with fewer characters who could do the same things and tell Murphy about stuff.
And the monsters were very blah. Not scary at all. Luckily there were no nurses... or dogs. I'm not a fan of weapons breaking, but I managed. The prison area was horrific! Murphy was mauled to death there many times. The Void was annoying too but those sequences were rarer than I thought.

I loved the atmosphere, it reminded me bit of SH2 mainly because the lack of bright colours and the overall murkiness. The rainy weather made me feel comfortable and relaxed. But when it started storming, well that's a different case then! And the sidequests are very interesting (haven't completed all of them). Some of them stuck into my mind, like the one where

the mom leads her autistic daughter to the docks and to the poor girl's certain death.

And I liked Murphy, he seems to be so alive. I feel pain everytime when the Void hurts him and he screams in pain :/ Anne was intriguing too. Her hate was so tangible. I liked the revenge theme.

The beginning of the game was also very disturbing. I wasn't expecting that.

No I didn't, but I've heard they're worth a read. Maybe someday I will!

I enjoyed them.

After reading them I wish DP had to different walkthroughs the same way RE2 did ...

Joke, now laugh!

3 things I hated about it.

Mailman
Disc Jockey
FILM GRAIN / NOISE STATIC / T.V. NOISE / DISTORTION !!!!

Everything else I liked about it. Want to know something funny about how I played it?
The majority of the game, I only played when it was raining.

Weird. Most thought the mailman was one of the better aspects of the game IIRC.

I remember to this day that the day I got Downpour, it poured raining all day. I swear. It was so cool.
