Did you noticed that all enemies have mouths that are screwed up somehow? What could that mean?

Seeing them close up makes me think they look even worse than I thought they did in game. Man those are terrible.

Probably, I'm not sure. At least someone decided to discuss about the subject instead of writing stuff like "OMG they suck even more up close" or "they didn't had originality" (that lack of originality could be said for TS too).

No offense guys but I wanted to discuss about that because it confuses me, not make another "lets mock Downpour" thread.

No hard feelings? :)

Anways when Murphy was leaving the prison all of the prisoners were mocking him/shouting at him. Could be as simple as that.

They don't exactly have normal eyes. Does that have to mean something, too?

I actually think it has something to do with Charlie and his death. The wide open mouths could symbolize the boy's screaming before his death. The boy screaming his fathers name, and it's in a way, burned into Murphy's mind. The ones with the mouths that are bound up in a way, could symbolize something to do with his death once again.

And yes, the eyes do actually symbolize something. The wide open eyes on the Prisoners actually symbolize the administration of intravitreal injections, which can force creepy smiles such as the ones seen on the Prisoners. Usually everything placed on the creatures of Silent Hill have symbolism and meaning.

Wonder what the tats mean though? A crown, barbed wire? What is the significance in that?

Well, they were supposed to represent the same Prisoners from the riots at the Prison. Prisoners are often seen with tattoos, whether they symbolize the "gang" they're a part of, or something meaningful to them. They're Prisoners, so tattoos are expected. As for the head gear and barbed wire, they could represent him feeling trapped from his time spent in prison. Barbed wire seems to be frequently seen at Prisons (the barbed wire fences that encloses grounds), these fences kept him inside, not letting him go out into the outside world. These barbed wire fences probably made him feel trapped, thus them being incorporated into his manifestations of Prisoners (which do represent parts of himself as well). The metal gear is hard to say really, but I know there is a significance to it. Just because we don't know, doesn't mean it isn't there. It could represent another form of him feeling trapped and controlled while in prison.

Someone else here has probably come up with a good theory regarding them

I just don't think they actually convey anything more than what you see on the surface. I think someone in the art department just thought it was scary.

I dunno, it would seem like a huge coincidence that every enemy has some sort of "mouth damage". I know what the one on Screamer is. It's called a Glasgow smile. It's a wound that results from slashing a person's face from the edges of the mouth to the ears. It leaves the scare that makes the victim appear to be smiling.

AND, based on what WhiteClaudia said

WhiteClaudia wrote: The wide open eyes on the Prisoners actually symbolize the administration of intravitreal injections, which can force creepy smiles such as the ones seen on the Prisoners. Usually everything placed on the creatures of Silent Hill have symbolism and meaning.

I think we're onto something here.

Btw. Prisoners also act like the prison guards during the last part, at least the Prisoner Juggernaut.

So the dev team liked Heath Ledger's portrayal of the Joker?

After all things in this game were almost clowns.

The one on the doll probably has something to do with blowjobs. Or deceit. Those dolls are rather tricky and deceiving.

Honestly I don't think the mouths have anything to do with anything, but an idea might be Sewell's deception. A "speak no evil" sort of deal with the doll. Iunno, just talking outta my ass, maybe you can do something with that idea.
How l-lewd...

Except for the early clown look of the prisoners there weren't any clowns in the game.

Also, Ledger's Joker isn't the only person with that smile.

That's like if I say that the devs liked Texas Chainsaw Massacre and that's why Walter is a serial killer.

Nope, you're probably wrong.

I say the dev team based the face off of the Dark Knight Joker.

And your proof is the fact that Screamer has a Glasgow smile?

The main character of Franken Fran also has one.

You can't prove that's not what they were doing it for either, so it's irrelevant.
