I'm aware of some of the story and I've read Elle's blog. What I mean by it meaning anything is that: A) Every Silent Hill game shares similar plot elements, and B) Fans tend to over-exaggerate certain aspects. I agree that it's weak, but I personally don't think it sucks from what I've seen so far. And when I get the chance to play it first-hand, I'll do so without any pre-conceived judgment.

Do you mean Hulett and Shatsky? They're not from Climax, but from Konami. BTW Hulett was also involved with Homecoming.

Breakable weapons, if they have to be included, should only be weapons that one actually expects to break while used against soft, fleshy enemies. This should never include tire irons, sledgehammers, meathooks, screwdrivers, etc.

Origins decided to go for variety and made everything breakable. What this led to, for me, was to use very few weapons of any kind and end up finishing the game with seventy of them in my inventory.

Also, if you have limited weaponry, don't have endlessly re-spawning enemies. Once I realized that they keep re-spawning, I simply quit even trying to kill them.

My preference would be to not have breakable weapons, simply because I don't like having to worry about it while I'm trying to play through and see what's going on.
The above post is intended to be factual, unless it isn't.

Well I have a lot of hope for Downpour. I think that using an open world approach will make it a lot more fresh. The protagonist Murphy Pendleton seems I find quite interesting and the fact that he a felon add a lot to the story.

As for the unbreakable weapons. I'm undecided. On one hand it'll add to the tension. But on the other it could be quite annoying. I guess I'll have to wait and see.

So that's why my expectations are good as well as the fact that I don't see the reason of criticizing the game when it hasn't come out.

Really? My bad then. lol But they both were involved with the games and both know a great deal about SH, so I'm very glad that they're producing it. They're really cool too, so bonus points.

A raving fan? At least I won't make a documentary about it. lol If anything, I'm just looking at Homecoming as a game; something entertaining that I can enjoy. I don't see why I shouldn't be an optimist about the game thus far, considering I've liked what I've read and I can't play it yet. Why go into the game thinking of its flaws? I'd rather go into it thinking about what I like about it now and see how my questions are answered.

Well almost excited. Though I'm very sad that Akira Yamaoka aint going to do the music, and Mary Elizabeth McGlynn aint doing vocals. But since Konami said that it'll be alot more frightening, I'm excited for that.

I'm wondering about these so called "decisions" we get to make that will affect the gameplay. From the sounds of it, some of these decisions appear to be moral in nature.

I do hope this is more than simply doing something right vs. wrong. There are plenty of games that do that sort of thing these days with Karma Systems and such. I think Silent Hill should be more about having dilemma: like having to make a bad choice not because you want to but because of the circumstances. I think it's important to make the player feel bad about having to make that bad choice.

Not too concerned about the disposable weapons. Afterall, we're talking abominations created from one's fears and anxiety. Human psyche is a powerful thing. It never really made sense to me that you could defeat them so easily in the first place. Sure, Origins took it a bit far..., but I guess we'll see in Downpour.

Moeru makes a good point. The enemies in Silent Hill 3 displayed this greatly, in my opinion - then again, it wasn't so much Heather's psyche, as it was the God's power acting directly on the physical world (Heather's psyche certainly had some part to play in it, but the God's growing maturity was predominantly the cause of the nightmare world...I think. )
I don't get mad; I get even - which isn't normal, for someone as odd as me.

You and I both know it was Ben Kingsley.

Oh yeah, forgot about him. But I had no idea Ben Kingsley was God! :o I had no idea England was so broken down! Just kidding. I'm sure England has some far better architecture than us Australians...our idea of professional design is that it doesn't fall down. 8-)

But you have that awesome building in Sydney. We have the Arch, a giant horseshoe. We have the statue of liberty, which a french guy built for us and was supposed to be a slave breaking her chains but we rejected that. We have tall ass buildings that go up and don't do much else. The rest is just shanties and suburbs. Blah.

Speaking of architecture, the pictures I've seen of the town in this game look like it may actually have some realistic architecture. Lots of detail in the alleyway instead of varying degrees of the same trash can and a bunch of the same shed in different colors. My personal favorite was the garage in the alley in SH1 when you went back to look for Cheryl again. The alley is barely big enough for a car to be able to pull in or back out of a garage, but then the door is only like 5 feet wide. Even a minicooper would be hard to pull that off in. The shot with the fire escape looks like a place that would be behind a business in a smaller town. or behind an apartment building. I'm excited about roaming this town, even if I hate the game, I will still wander everywhere.

...Which doesn't fall down. Thus, the Australian architecture on it is good. Aesthetic appeal is lost on us.
And yes, the town does look well-designed and visually appealing in Downpour. I'm quite excited for this game as well. :D I liked the architecture of the Baldwin Mansion, and the backyard linking it to Blue Creek Apartments in the Born From A Wish scenario in Silent Hill 2...I did not like Blue Creek Apartments, because it was TOO DAMN DARK! I was stumbling around in that stairwell for about 5 minutes before I found the door...and I was using that damn map as well.

That's what she said. Sorry, had to say it, hairy.

I believe I said I was in the stairwell, which had absolutely no monsters in it...and it infuriated me very much. The hallway with the Creepers in it was also annoying, because their screechy ambience, plus the monster-danger-music, tested my patience, and my ability to keep myself from trying to make Maria turn Super Saiyan, and blow the whole place up.

Just been reading the Team Xbox hands on demo preview (serious spoilers inside that link so beware) and it says that all of the weapons are breakable. But then again, all the reviewer had to fight with in the demo was a crowbar and a piece of wood.

I like what I'm hearing thus far and it seems that Downpour may be a lot more immersive than the par Homecoming. I'm getting all 'wet' for this one. ;)

REVEAL SPOILER
It also seems to borrow from SH2 with an apparent lengthy trek from the forest crash site to the game's first enemy.

I am keeping completely neutral. I won't view too many movies or look up too many details to keep it fresh. It'll be interesting to see where it goes!
