Forum Rules

Post by admin »

Forum Rules:

1. Do not post anything pornographic or you will be banned.

2. Do not post hate speech or slurs against minority groups. Racism, sexism, homophobia, and transphobia are bannable offenses.

3. Do not post any member's personal information or photos without permission.

4. Do not spam the site with links. There is a promotion subforum where you can post links to things like Twitch or YouTube channels. Do not bump these more than once a day. Do not make multiple threads for the same channel or website.

5. Do not harass members in any other way. This forum is meant for discussion of the Silent Hill series in a calm and thoughtful way, not for harassing its fans, including harassing fans for having different opinions on the series.

6. For legal reasons, do not link to anything illegal.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome to the Silent Hill Community! We're a pretty laid-back community and very friendly to members new and old alike so long as you follow the forum rules. We have become notoriously known for our strict policing in preventing spam and "dumb" posts--so make sure all of your posts are good. It's vital you read, become familiar, and practice the rules of this place listed below. Just be cool, be smart, and be mature. Do that, and you'll fit right in.

POSTING ETIQUETTE: DO NOT
Be rude, hateful, disrespectful, or vulgar towards any member (including staff).
.
Be rude, hateful, disrespectful, or vulgar towards any other forum(s) not part of Silent Hill Community. We have a lot of friends who either run or are part of other Silent Hill forums so it's only right to be respectful.
.
Post IN ALL CAPS or OtHeR irritating Formats Such As This. The content of your posts should be well enough that you don't need to use attention-grabbing formatting schemes.
.
Create spam or pointless threads. Use your common sense to justify what is or isn't spam-like before you post it.
.
Post any iterations of non-meaningful, spam messages such as one-worded or extremely few-worded posts, such as but not limited to: "No", "Go away", "Stop", "lol", ":-)" etc. Seriously, don't do this. Keep threads/discussions intelligent.
.
Double-post. Double-posting (and beyond) is replying in a thread, then replying again when no one else has responded yet, thus there are two posts (or more) by you in a row. Don't do this. Simply "Edit" your post if you want to add something when no one has replied since your last post. "Bumping" is allowed, however, read below for further details.
.
"Bump" a topic until at least 24 hours from your last post. Only bump a thread if it is worthwhile and important. Use common sense: Is what you are "bumping" important enough to further carry a meaningful discussion? If not, simply "Edit" your previous post, as otherwise you'd be pushing down other active threads that are posting current hot-topic conversations.
.
Excessively bump the same topic.
.
Participate in and/or create "flame wars", "console wars", "versus wars" or any other topics that are aimed at provoking controversy without any merit for intelligent discussions.
.
While some threads on topics such as religion or politics may be allowed, do not post them in such a way as to purposely incite flame wars, don't insult people, etc. Even if the thread has not degenerated into flame wars and name-calling, moderators may close it without notice if we think it's headed there.
.
Please make sure your new topic titles reflect the content of the thread in some way. Don't use spoilers in game-related thread titles, but make sure the thread title gives people some inkling of what the thread is going to be about.
.
When posting images that are large in file size and/or take a while to load, use spoiler tags.
.
Impersonate any and all forms of staff.
.
Post inappropriate images, links or lewd content.
.
Make racist, sexist, or other discriminatory remarks of any form both publicly and privately.
.
Post repeat topics. Use the "Search" feature to search for any pre-existing thread/topic by clicking the "Search" link at the top of every page.
.
Post personal or private identifying/contact information of any member (including staff).
.
You are responsible for what you post. The staff is not responsible for you giving out too much information about yourself on the forum. Do not post what you do not want out there. Do not post your address, social security number, full name, credit card information, or anything that can and will be use against you. It is advised that you practice internet safety when browsing the forum. Failure to do so will result in severe consequences.
.
Discuss your warnings/reports/bans or those of other members in public threads.

SIGNATURE ETIQUETTE: DO NOT
Use excessively long or annoying signatures.
.
Use images that are large in file size and/or take a while to load.
.
Make your overall signature exceed the dimensions of 625 pixels (width) by 100 pixels (height).

***************************
ATTITUDE AND EXPECTATIONS HERE
If you show respect, you receive respect.
.
If you show humility, you will be admired.
.
Present your discussions with clarity, concision and transparency and people will listen to your every word.
.
Encourage continual, intelligent discussions with every post you make. For example, "lol nice" is considered spam-like, while something like, "That looks really nice! I feel like ___ really adds ___ to the piece. How do you all feel about that?" gets your same point across while also both explaining why you like it and encouraging further community feedback and discussion.
.
In short: Do good here and good will come your way here.

ENLARGING RE-SIZED IMAGES
Any image posted in a thread exceeding a width of 630 pixels and/or a height of 600 pixels will be re-sized. This is done to prevent page stretching. If an image has been resized you will see a small magnifying glass at the top left corner of it. To enlarge the picture and view it in its native size click the magnifying glass. If the image is still bigger than your monitor's screen resolution you will have the option to click the + Magnifying Glass again to view it in full. If you have opened an image for enlargement you can click anywhere to close the window:

EDITING POSTS
Edit your post to correct anything you see wrong. Additionally, edit your post if no one has replied since your post and there is no need to bump it. You can find the "Edit" button on the top right corner of every post your make:

PRIVATE MESSAGING FOR PRIVATE MATTERS
If you need to discuss private matters such as inquiries about warnings, bannings, suspicious activities, tampering, etc., please send them to the appropriate member through a private message (PM). You can send a member a PM by clicking on their username and going through their profile or at the bottom of their user info of every post the member makes:

SPOILER ALERTS
Depending on the game, topic and situation at hand, you will need to mark any spoilers clearly. Spoilers are information about a topic that can potentially ruin the experience for a user who has yet to see/play/experience the event. If you are the creator of a thread that discusses a topic full of spoilers, mark the title of the thread accordingly.
For example: "How Mary really died (SPOILERS)"

If you are replying to a thread that isn't particularly discussing an event that could be spoiled and the thread itself isn't marked for potential spoilers, wrap the section of your post that contains the spoiler in the Spoiler BBCode:

IF A MEMBER HAS POSTED SOMETHING INAPPROPRIATE...
...you can send a report to one of the administers or moderators by clicking the "!" exclamation mark above the post in question. There you will submit the report with the option of documenting what issues you may find with that post.

Please exercise this feature if need be, especially if you find a spam-bot. While we do our best to keep the boards clean and smooth we sometimes miss things, so your help is always appreciated.

INFRACTIONS
Depending on the severity of the offense, a warning or banning will be issued to the member in question of the offense. A warning's expiration also depends on the offense cited. An accumulation of warnings may result in a ban. A ban is permanent.

***************************
ACCOUNTS
SHC is not Facebook. We do not do "account deactivations" on a forum. If you wish to leave the site or take a break for whatever reason, all you need to do is stop logging in. I'm not going to delete your account though, because it will mess up the forums. You are responsible for what you post. If you have personal information on your profile or in your posts and you want it gone, it's your responsibility to delete that before leaving.
