I'm not stuck, I just have a question that I'm hoping someone will be able to answer for me.

First off I know you need to beat the game twice, once with the Good+/Good ending and once with the Bad+/Bad ending to unlock the bedroom at the Levin St house where you get the Katana.

I'm on my 3rd play through right now. The first time through I played on normal and finished with the Good+ ending. The second time through I played on hard and finished with the UFO ending. (to get the Hyper Blaster)

Here is my question: Does it matter that I did the UFO ending on my 2nd play through? Now that I'm on my 3rd play through will I get the Katana if I finish the game with the Bad+/Bad ending? In other words when getting the Katana do you have to do the Good+/Good ending and the Bad+/Bad endings back to back in order to get the Katana? Or is it ok to do it out of order like I am? (1st=Good+, 2nd=UFO, and 3rd=Bad+/Bad, haven't finish the 3rd yet)

If you know the answer and can help me out I would totally appreciate it.

Thanks Mike ;)

No problem, man. ;)

I doubt the order really matters much, though I'd say you've probably have to get all endings aside from the UFO (so an additional playthrough would be require in the end). I'm not exactly sure what the conditions are for acquiring the katana, and it seems that there is a bit of general confusion about it. Personally, I think it may have been, as you say, getting all the endings, but I didn't get the katana until after my ninth playthrough. If I recall correctly, that seems to be when I finally tried a different ending.

But, again, it's likely that the order doesn't matter.

Yeah, I wouldn't think that the order would matter but then again, I have no idea. That's why I was hoping maybe someone else out there has taken the same path as me and knows whether or not the order in which you get the endings matters. Another thing, I don't think you need to get all 4 endings. Just the Good+ or Good on one play through and the Bad+ or Bad on the second play through. At least that is what seems to be what most people agree upon when it comes to unlocking the Katana. Thanks for the input.

I got the Katana a week or so ago finally. My first run was Bad+, then the second was Good+. There's definitely no order at all. My first run was pretty standard. I sped through the second run, but still wasted a good deal of time. Got 7/10 stars only because I didn't have all the endings yet. I only had one save (right before the final boss who owned me a few times on Hard mode) and one continue (from the lizard boss at the school who I messed up on once).

Dunno if rank has to do with it or not. When I played it on the PS3 back in early 2010, I got like 4/5 endings and still didn't get the Katana. I'd usually have gold stats in just about everything except Ending count (you don't get gold on this until you get all five) and save count.

I'm almost done with my 3rd run through so once I'm done with it all let you know if I end up getting it. I just got side tracked with finishing Homecoming, and then I started playing SH3. I'll try and squeeze it in the next couple of days. I'm at the amusement park so I don't have far to go, and I can breeze through "nowhere" pretty quick. Anyways I'll keep you posted.

*UPDATE*
I just finished playing my 3rd time through. The order does not matter. Here is a quick break down, my 1st play through on normal difficulty I finished with the GOOD+ ending. 2nd time through I played on hard difficulty (next fear mode) and got the UFO ending. Right now I just finished my 3rd time through on hard difficulty (next fear mode) and finished with the BAD+ ending. It unlocked the Katana. Once I finished the game, on the screen that tells you how many stars you earned, I had the Hyper Blaster, Chainsaw, Rock Drill, Channeling Stone, and most importantly the Katana all spinning in the back ground so it was unlocked. Finally, it took 3 play throughs but I got it. I would have gotten it on my 2nd time through but opted to go for the UFO ending to get the Hyper Blaster. I just want to thank everyone who tried to help out and give me as much info as they could. I'm too tired to start a new game right now but can't wait to try it out once I do. Levin St here I come!!

I haven't played since a couple weeks ago, but I'm gonna finally try out the Katana soon. Definitely gonna come back here and give my impressions on it's field performance. And no problem, it's always fun trying to solve SH mysteries. :)

Yeah, order never matters in SH. Just that you fulfill the requirements in any given playthrough. The only thing about the katakana to me is that it's awkward to use. It's fun, but it's easy to leave yourself wide open.

I beat it the other day, and finally unlocked it but was to tired to start playing through it again. Now I'm ready, and after I'm done with this post I'm going to start playing. I've heard that you do some sort of slide move when using it so it will be interesting to see if I can get the hang of it. Once you give it a shot come back and post something so we can all see what you think about it. I'm excited to get playing sense I've spent so much time trying to unlock this thing. Once I get it I'll put an update on this post and let you guys know how it is. Well here I go, I hope my expectations aren't to high and I end up thinking the Katana sucks. Here goes nothing.

Some people got katana after their first walkthrough, so i think it depends not on which endings you get, but on some specific actions during the gameplay (to win more points). I'm personally trying to use melee weapons, especially knife, where possible and kill every damn enemy on my way...

Good luck, and let me know how it goes. I've also heard of people getting the Katana after one play through, but it didn't happen like that for me. I posted what I had to do to get it unlocked, but I'm sure it's a little different for everyone. I have played now with the Katana and it's a cool weapon. I don't know if I really like how you slide forward while attacking with it. I actually didn't even use it my last play through cause I have one ending left to get and then I'm going to try for the 10 star finish. My last run trough I finished in 1 hour and 49 minutes so I'm shaving time off of my runs. I will start a new post once I get the last ending and can actually legitimately go for the 10 star finish. I'll post it in the SH section once I get to that point so I can keep everyone up to date with my progress. I'm going to also try and post some picture of my game results screens so everyone can see my progression through my last few attempts at getting a better finish time through the game.

Mike ;)
