SH4: Respawning hauntings?

Post by The Gentleman on Wed Jul 20, 2011 2:10 am

At this stage in the game, there are two hauntings in my flat, one in the bedroom above the desk, one in the living room by the peephole. Both are this kind of pulsating growth. I keep taking a medallion or candle to them and they go away but when I come back to the flat they're both there again. Anyone care to explain?

So in other words you've exorcised them both left the apt through the hole and come back to find those two hauntings again?

Hauntings can come back over time but exorcising two hauntings and the exact same two coming back upon the very next trip. Never heard of of such a thing.

Are you absolutely sure you've exorcised them? Placing the candles close enough to them? It's kind of hard to give advice for this sort of thing especially without actually seeing what you're doing. Are you playing this on PC or something?

And if try to save the medallions as much as possible since they wear out quicker when used to exorcise hauntings. One candle is always enough to exorcise one haunting.

PS2 oddly enough, yep, I take the candle to them and they go. Also, I'm not entirely confirmed on this but it seems whenever I get ride of one of the growth haunting the other one goes as well.

I know SH2 and 3 on PS2 were bug-free, was this also confirmed about the console version of SH4?

Are these the first hauntings you've exorcised? Have you waited for the candles to burn out completely? You could probably try exorcising them again (if you're able to) and see what happens or reload an earlier save. There's only so much I can say without seeing what's actually going on in the game.

Well I'm sure this doesn't seem to happen with other hauntings and as long as I get rid of 80% of 'em I should get a decent ending.

Well, you could try reloading the save file or something but if that's really the case it's probably best just to keep going in the game and not let this bog you down.

Nah, you'll be okay. Just continue exorcising 'em. You should be able to get the Best/Bad ending. Take yer pick. I'd personally go for good, because you get an alternate costume... 8-)
I love the Silent Hill Series. The new games did nothing wrong whatsoever, they were developed well, and did things different. I believe that Silent Hill Downpour will make all Silent Hill fans happy. Team Silent doesn't exist, but their series does.

I'll probably just leave them alone and save my scarce holy items for more obstructive hauntings.

Are you absolutely sure you don't want the alternate costume? It even adds physics (jiggly) to Eileen's breasts. 8-)

It seems though you dont always have to use your holy candles on the hauntings either. If you bother to wait long enough in the room, some of the hauntings will go away. I dont know if its only with certain hauntings (probably is), but it happened to me. I didnt pause my game and left Henry there the apartment for a little while. I eventually noticed that that some of the hauntings such as the windows went away.

I too though have noticed some of my hauntings respawn later. Like the ghost haunting and the cracks in the wall.

I realize it's technically an outdated topic, but if anyone encounters a similar issue you can check if the hauntings are completely exorcised by turning on the radio in the living room. It'll blast static in true SH fashion if there is a haunting anywhere in 302.
It's really late... just pretend I said something awesome.

When I played threw the game I had the shit luck where I could never get the hauntings to go away, and they just became room mates. But I was told later if you do not wait for the candles to fully burn out, before you leave, the haunting will stay there

I actually tried this out (on accident), but if you have a haunting in your apartment, and you wait around long enough inside the apartment, the haunting will eventually go away. Though, maybe this was a glitch? But I've experienced this several times.

For example, I had the doll haunting above my chest, and (I was messing around) I had Henry stand in the kitchen for about.... 15-20 minutes maybe? (No pausing). And eventually the doll haunting went away. However, it did come back later...
