Is Silent Hill Dying?

Post by Darkness Walker on Thu Aug 02, 2012 6:40 am

Well not the game series.

I mean the town itself. As the series progresses Ive noticed that everytime you go to Silent Hill, more and more buildings seem to be either abandon, or boarded up. Even while you notice more up to date items around town like computers, or cars. It just seems like more and more of the town is becomming run down with age. It's like a facotry town after the factory closes....

I don't know, i was always confused with what you're talking about. Seems to me that almost everygame has their own (up to date items and whatnot) Homecoming takes place in 2007 but there's this 70's vibe in the cars and items found in game. Whilst in Downpour we see so more modern stuff. I really have no idea i thought the town was abandoned a long time ago and that every game had their own representation (similar or not) of the towns current state.

Hmmm from what i understand, the town of SH itself is still a thriving small resort town...the place you visit in the game is the fog world and otherworld versions of it. There are people there, but the folks you meet are the same kind of people the town has called to either assist you in your journey or they are there dealing with their own demons, but either way you are in a parallel with the true SH town that is a thriving small town.

I think maybe it would be Douglas's expose on the cult that keeps people out? They did some shady things, like kidnapping and drug dealing. They were also involved in local politics.

I thought Downpour had a bit more of a 50s-60s asthetic in places.

Do you say that cause of the old truck Murphy talked to himself about? cause aside from that the police cars and interiors looked fairly modern to me, since that truck was very "Why hasn't this been towed away?, it's obviously broken down.."

Don't forget the radio station. Apart from the equipment the place just gives off some dated vibes, to me at least.

Wonder if they mixed 60's and 00's on purpose...?

The Real World is the one place that is the most least-seen place in the entire series. In reality (our reality, I suppose), SH is just a small resort town which is still quite active. Most people there are completely unaware of the crazy things that have and can happen in the town and around it. In fact, I bet most people don't even know of the cult at all. Then after Douglas spilled the beans on the cult post-SH3, I'm sure that had some type of effect, as small or big as it could've been.

I think what you're talking about -- the town looking more decrepit, is more of a coincidence than anything else.
