What first attracted you to the series?

The $9 price tag on the copy of the first game when I found it at a GameStop.

That's all. I heard of the game before I bought it but other than the fact that it was like Resident Evil I knew nothing about it.

Wow... one post into this and it's already looking like everything else. :/

I was drawn into the sheer fear and rush I got playing the demo of Silent Hill 4 with my friends when I was about 11-12. There were 5 of us and we were still scared shitless. I never pursued the series past that until I got my hands on a copy of 4 quite a few years later. I bought it with my store credit that I won in a Soul Calibur III tournament at a local (now defunct) game store. It was in a shitty case. It's the only SH game I have without the original art and manual. Still, I played that game like crazy. I didn't beat it then, but I was intrigued enough to buy more. My next game was Origins. I beat it within a couple of days worth of play. That week, I went to Gamestop and bought 2 and 3. I've been an avid fan ever since. When I got my PS3 three years ago, Homecoming was among the first few games that I had for it. I pre-ordered Shattered Memories for the soundtrack at Gamestop and I've pre-ordered the last two games (Downpour and yes, the HD Collection).

The first gaming series that grabbed me was Final Fantasy (and that was all because of The Legend of Dragoon). However, Silent Hill holds a special place in my heart. It will always be one of my favorite series no matter what direction it takes.

The soundtracks, many years ago 2005 or 2006 i think? i stumbled upon a certain song called "the day of night" on the internet and i was so amazed and stunned by it, i quickly began researching the hell out of this so called "silent hill"

I had heard about it before but never got a chance to play any of the games, since i was little i was into horro movies and stuff but never had played a horror game before, so i started to look for a silent hill game.

My first was homecoming cause i had a hard time finding the older ones, and i LOVED it, then i got 2 & 3 and also loved them, then 4 (which ihaven't finished) and it goes on and on but my favorites are still 3 and homecoming. im so happy i encountered such an amazing and artistic series that is much more than a "game".

The soundtracks are indeed a big attraction to the series, hopefully the new ones will be able to keep up.

I don't care. The moment you start posting it on a public forum, you open yourself up for people to ask. Now answer the question.

It's an indicitive of a fan's relationship with the series in a logical formatt and MotherDescent is indicating that he is continuing to be hostile, which he needs to stop with being petty in his pursuits. :) so stop the hostile business.

He doesn't have to answer anything, public forum or no, Aug. Please, stop fanning the flames.

What drew me to it was an article in psm on the 2nd game and I liked horror games so I always looked for new ones to play. What kept me here was that the game was an answer, horror of the unexplanable type that is actually scary and not cheesy, the complete opposite of Resident Evil's scifi horror.

Played 2 first because of the article. 3 didn't exist at that time, so I went back and played 1 which I also loved.

Yeah, I already picked up on the fact that he is a remedial troll a good while back. Nonetheless, I am curious what the kid is rambling about this time.

Anyway, I saw the first game in my local rental store back when it first came out. I had never heard about it prior to seeing it. So I picked the copy off the shelf and thumbed through the manual. Concept was interesting enough. Guy loses his daughter in an unknown town and there are monsters that the manual doesn't go into detail about. But it just rubbed me as a Resident Evil knockoff and I just ignored it.

Coincidentally that day, my brother came home with a copy of the game he had borrowed from a friend. He said he had heard it was scarier than Resident Evil which made me wonder what the hell that meant. He played through the intro and things became interesting fast. So when I got my turn to play I was hooked. And the rest is history.

The series came to me, actually, my dad gave me a PS1 back in 2000 along with a copy of SH and Spider Man
I threw away my spider man copy and was instantly hooked to SH, i basically grew up with the series.

Well, here's how it went. I visited my cousin one day. We were talking about Resident Evil, he let me see some of the PS1 games he has. I noticed Parasite Eve 1 and SH 1. I wondered if those horror games were good, instantly fell in love with both.

The fact that it's a horror game is what caught my attention.

Btw. you threw Spider-Man 1?!

I used to have a babysitter when I was a few years old (6? 7?) and said babysitter had children of around 12-13 whom I would often play with. One day, they had rented a peculiar game called 'Silent Hill'. What a romp it looked like in the manual, what with its health kits and scary monsters! They played the game and I helped by giving friendly advice. The radio went off and I questioned, 'Oh, might it be that dog again? How scary!' 'You should use that gun to shoot the flying thing!' 'Oh no, why's it going all dark?'

And then I never slept again. Mainly because I couldn't get the intro sequence with the Mumblers and the corpse on the wall out my my child head at night.

I stayed away from the series until I was around...11? 12? I picked up a copy of Silent Hill 4 because I was a big strong man at 11 years of age and could handle what traumatized me as a child. The introduction sequence happened and I never slept again. Again.

Then I stayed away for a year or two until I became intrigued with 2, and miraculously found a secondhand copy. I played it to completion and wasn't scared, so I felt I had graduated from puny baby to horror fan for life.

(I still haven't finished 4 to this day)
