Reversing 2&3

This is a thread that I started at least 1000 years ago on another forum. And apparently I'm bored as fuck because I'm throwing the idea out there again.

Does anyone think that perception of the series would be different if the second game and the third game were released in the reverse order?

I'm not making any mention of graphics, quality, or anything like that. Obviously the games would be different in terms of quality if they had come out in different years. I'm asking if 3s story line had been released in a game directly after the first game, would 2 (and consequently, the other games after it) feel "tacked on?" Would everything revolve around Alessa even more than it already has?

I always thought so. I think 2 having such a separate story line set the stage for the other games only being linked in spirit. Just a random musing of mine. ^_^

People might have hated on 2 a lot more had it been the third game in the series. Hell, if Origins was the third in the series and 2 the fourth, I think it would have been worse.

Yeah, I think so. The third game essentially invented Silent Hill canon and the second game has practically nothing to do with it.

I much more firmly believe that if Silent Hill 2 was the sixth or seventh game in the series, made by Climax or Vatra and everything else about it was entirely unchanged from the game we know, it would be reviled by series purists for committing the twin crimes of being both new and different. Its reputation benefits greatly from nostalgia, even though every piss ant complaint your average Team Silent Ballwasher makes about the series applies to it.

I stand by the theory that if Vatra, Climax, or Double Helix developed the Team Silent games and Team Silent developed the other entries respectively that they'd be viewed differently. I also stand by the theory that the Japanese apparently "shit gold."

Personally, if 2 would've been the third entry, I think 4 would have never been made. For some reason, my instinct is telling me that the series would've ceased. Hell, if 3 would've been 2, the new 3 could have possibly continued its story for all we know.

Oh sweet Jesus. I didn't even consider that.
If that woud've been the case (1,3,Origins,2) then Silent Hill would've stopped at 4 games. Everyone would've been up in arms so quickly, even if TS were still in charge that whole time.
