Silent Hill logo evolution

Post by Devoured on Sun May 13, 2012 6:25 pm

I've always preferred the more simplistic ones, I suppose 1 is my fav with 3 after that. 4 is a very basic font so it wasn't that interesting, and I never much liked those cobwebs they used with 2. The one they used for 0rigins was a bit I dunno, cartoonish to me. Downpour basically used the same layout but it's simplified or at least toned down a little, a bit better IMO. The Homecoming one was too bulky and round for my liking.

You're right, it does especially with the horizontal lines but it's a lot leane...4's still seems the most like a normal basic font to me. I suppose the same can be said about 1 in a way, the thickness of the different letters is mostly what makes it different, but to me it sort of catches the eye without being overkill, which is my problem with the more recent ones. The one they used for Shattered Memories is a little bloated as well but not as bad as the as the Homecoming logo, that's the only one I really dislike. I just wish they'd stuck to the original one, if only for a sense of continuity. Oh well...

Why do you want a sense of continuity? The continuous ones are "Team Silent" games.

I like that they're all different in a way (as they should be). The only one I can't like is Shattered Memories. It looks like a basic awful Photoshop job.

Every non-Team Silent game (sans 4) has had a subtitle to include with the logo. Having two lines really cuts into what you can do for simplicity. Having two different fonts or looks for your text draws the eye in (for better or worse).

But what do I know?

And yet none of them have the same logo :P seriously though, this isn't really directed at you per se but people are forever acting like everything that happened after 3 is unrelated to the 'real' Silent Hill games and every game after that is nothing but fan-fiction etc, it's not. For all intents and purposes, everything that happened in every game is canon [with the exception of Shattered Memories of course], just because people don't like it doesn't make it any less true. They're all Silent Hill games. Team Silent went on to do other shit. Deal with it.

There's no reason the standard logo couldn't be the same with the subtitle different without being offensive to the eye, whoever designed them was trained and payed to do so and should know this...it may just be my opinion of course but my gut tells me plenty of people will agree to it.

And 4 does have a subtitle though dude? Or do you mean the same font was used for that one?

BTW I have to say the logos, bar Homecoming, look a lot better against a black background...

The internet is a terrible for not being able to convey sarcasm. :/ Notice the  after my "Why do you want a sense of continuity? The continuous ones are "Team Silent" games..." or were you agreeing with my sarcasm? O.o

It's more common for a logo's subtitle to be different somehow (font, size, etc.). Silent Hill 4 is like... the only exception.
Notice how when you look at the Silent Hill 4 logo that your eyes wander around all of the words for some reason. You see "silent" "room" "hill" "the" "4." At a quick glance, it's hard to discern a "hierarchy of words." It's easier to establish said hierarchy with a different size and/or different font.

And 4 does have a subtitle though dude? Or do you mean the same font was used for that one?

"Sans" means 'without' or 'absent of.' Every Silent Hill game that came after the Team Silent games (with the exception of Silent Hill 4) has had a subtitle. That's basically what I meant. :)

The only logo I feel that is truly weak is Shattered Memories. I loved the game a lot, but judging from the logo alone instills doubt in the marketing portion of my brain.

SH1's logo holds a special place in my heart. So simple and even slightly scary.
I love the Silent Hill Series. The new games did nothing wrong whatsoever, they were developed well, and did things different. I believe that Silent Hill Downpour will make all Silent Hill fans happy. Team Silent doesn't exist, but their series does.

Kind of silly to bring "maturity" into the discussion of logos, but it's a Motherdescent post so I can't say I'm surprised.

Anyway, I don't really think too much of any of them. I don't really view any of TS game logos as being godly just because of the games the font is attached to. But I guess I like the original just because of how minimalist it is.

The only recent type of logo font I like is the one for the HD Collection. I wouldn't mind if they took that font and implemented it into the rest of the games.

I don't really like the town appearing in the backdrop of Downpour's logo, but no biggie.

You were ALL asked to move on, and if you weren't, the forum rules explicitly state we don't tolerate this kind of bickering, yet you STILL feel the need to have the last word.

Please, everyone move on.

Come on guys, the mods never asked for this. I listened to them, you guys can too. There's no need for all this bickering. This doesn't need to become GFAQs v2. They warned everyone, and on some other forums some bans would've probably been handed out by now. They asked nicely. It's pretty easy to ignore comments even if you're personally affected by them somehow. I suggest either use ignore or just ignore people manually if you can't stop yourselves from posting snide remarks.

Also, if you're having problems controlling yourself I think if you add someone to foe list it automatically ignores their posts so you don't have to see it.
