About "aglauphotis"

Post by Xuchilbara on Sun May 03, 2009 8:25 pm

"According to him [Democritus], the plant aglaophotis ["bright light"], which owes its name to the admiration in which is beauteous tints are held by man, is growing among the marble quarries of Arabia, on the side of Persia, a circumstance which has given it the additional name "marmaritis". By means of the plant, he says, the Magi can summon the deities into their presence when they please." (Pliny 24.102) [Bostock and Riley, 5:64]

*It has been conjectured that this herb is peony (Paeonia Officinalis)

*My note: Paeonia Officinalis is a European Peony that only grows in Europe. See, here.

This is all out of my 3 occult books of Agrippa. It all cited. this is the info LV ignored and she couldn't adequetly supply a good citation for her info. (Agla is a angel and the herb gets its name from that? This is not what this says... Plus it offers 3 citations, something she failed at.)

oddly, the Aglaophotis is used to summon gods. I have another source that says that, but for the Greeks.(which is where its name appears to be derived.) However, in the Kabbalah and in the game it likewise dispels demons. Could Dahlia's incubus really be a false god?

Your theory is certainly interesting and holds ground when you look at it.....

Greeks: Summons gods.
-Dahlia heard about it and wanted to use it as such?

Kabbalah: Dispels demons
-This is what it actually did, both in SH1 and 3.

If it worked the way it was 'supposed to work' based in real life, then yeah, we could come to the conclusion that the cult's God is/are false gods.

Not only is it a false god in 1 and 3, but also apparently, demons.

For those who believe Silent Hill is all of the mind. :\

Aglaophotis is a substance that makes an appearance in both Silent Hill 1 and Silent Hill 3. I won't spoil its in-game use for you, in case you haven't played them. It's pronounced "uh-GLOFF-uh-tiss."
