My Favourite content is simply pyramid head. But mainly i love how it is a game based on warped ideas of hell and punishment for sins. The way the religion of silent hill works perfectly to this. :D  :geek: :ugeek: :D
"Mother is God in the eyes of a child" - Rose said to Dahlia - silent hill movie, i love this quote as it is more true than any person can know!

My favorite "content" is the references to all the rituals and lore of the series.

it is good like that they mix the games together so they always have a back story that is easy to understand. i love the idea of religion being the cause of it all :)

A lot of people actually don't like the religious and cult undertones in the series, as they feel it's too cliche or unnecessary. While I wouldn't want another game that's centered around the cult (unless it was really original and done well), I really do enjoy the mythos and the rituals and such. For example, I'm really fascinated by stuff like the Rebirth ritual and the items one needs to perform it. A lot of people seem to be in denial that the cult and religion and such is indeed the backbone of the whole series, however.

I'd love for the next game to have more puzzles and side-plots which feature/reference various rituals and the town's backstory.

I'm the same way. The cult was there from the beginning. I don't see why it's hard for people to understand when the first game was written in such a manner. I think most of them have excess Christian baggage and project it on the game. Do you see people bitching about the same thing in Final Fantasy X? It had some of the same themes, yet people NEVER complain about THAT.

Exactly! FFX had a lot of religious imagery and references of doom, yet no one ever whined about it or anything. A lot of it gets shoved in the players' faces at various points in the game as well. In fact, now that I remember it, it's basically all over the place in that game.

Gotta say, this is one odd fanbase at times .

I think it's even more hilarious that Silent Hill was not even close to as much imagery and stuff in FFX. Besides, religion is just ideas and if people are that offended by ideas than haha. Silent Hill is all about ideas!

Agreed with all the quasi-religious mythos to Silent Hill and the cult nutters ;)

The cult angle was off to a bad start with Dahlia's over-the-top ramblings.

It's been a while since I played SH1, so I don't remember the script in any detail, but I do recall lengthy rantings from Dahlia, and I reckon it just adds to that WTF feeling when you first play Silent Hill (although I'd imagine it sounds a bit dated by today's standards).

My favorite "content" as a whole is probably the music. From a gamePLAY aspect, I like the weird stuff you run across while exploring (SH3 especially in this regard)

I wouldn't say it was off to a bad start. Thanks to the subpar voice acting, the way Dahlia spoke was like some stereotypical cheesy cultist from some horror movie or something, which kinda helped the game's atmosphere in a way as the game did take from various horror films and novels. Besides, I'm sure at the time (at least for those of us who played the game way back in the day when video game voice acting wasn't held to such high standards as nowadays), the last thing we were worried about was the voice acting .

Yes, Dahlia's ramblings were indeed over the top, but that was the point. Anyone who beat the game (and it helps if you've played SH3 which expands on some of the SH1 elements and themes) will know that a lot of what Dahlia said was outright BS and that she was just lying to Harry to try to further her own goals. Then if you compare Dahlia to Claudia, one is a deceitful woman with ill-intent while the other is a misguided emotionally-scarred woman who has good intent, but is going about it in the wrong way. A very stark contrast.

I don't really have too much of a problem with cult themes in the games, honestly. A lot of stuff gets shoved in your face, but if the player is to identify with the character(s), who always openly reject the cult's ideals and goals, why is the cult stuff always a problem, lol? I guess it's just the way it's presented. I think they could make one of the "individualist" games (pretty much any SH besides 1, 3, and Origins, and to a small extent, HC) and still retain some of these elements.

ffx the games was based almost entirely on religion and people dont complain the fact is that the sh series plays it out better in my view BECAUSE it is an undertone and the makers dont over play the theme.but they also show in minor ways how important it is and how it is all tied in. the rituals are amazing because they can also create to real life religion and thinking i.e the children being sacrificed in homecoming in almost identical to what civilizations did hundreds and even thousands of years ago. I also love how the religion plays outs that silent hill in each games is either your own hell or (as in sh 3) your own warped heaven to some people, and how the creatures are all created in images of their sins or lifestyles in my belief

Perhaps it would be fair to say that it was off to a bad start with me, heh heh. It never really put me off enough that I didn't enjoy any of the games. I did enjoy it as a psychological backdrop for Walter.

Dahlia gave us some of the best lines though. "Stay back! Nothing's to be gained from floundering about at random."

I like Dahlia and Kaufmann from 1. So many memorable lines.
