Second thoughts about the film

Post by gustavopi on Fri Feb 10, 2012 9:51 am

Maybe we don't have to kill people to make a better movie. I think the first Batman was a failure. Even the same producers make better in the sequels - more like Batman. And there is some Batman-movies that are really good.

Silent Hill is a source of ideas and even if I love this movie, doing a new story, without linking with any games, is an option - probably easier to reach success. But we have to remember that Avary is a player, like us!

Revelations (the movie production) is a story that happens many times in Hollywood. The production process fails for some reason and somebody get in to save the navy. We have some examples of success like Brad Pitt in the movie is running for oscar and some total failures. We can only hope...

I wouldn't put it like that.

I honestly think Avary is more to blame for the occasionally bad dialogue than anything else. Pretty much all of the major story line decisions were made by Gans, such as the whole Witch Hunting Adventists thing and all the heavy handed good and evil symbolism that was about as subtle as the shoulder angel scene in Animal House.

It's not a wonderful thing about the manslaughter. It never is. But there is some divine presence out there preventing him from coming back (and Gans, too) and giving SH: Revelation a chance to succeed. Both Gans and Avary, IMO, are heftly responsible for the mess that was the movie.

[Pre-knowing anything about SH]: I thought that the movie had such a great oppourtinty for a storyline and at first it felt like they were following it, but then it was like they decided there didn't need to be a real story. That was the biggest disappointment of the movie. That, and the casting. Everything else about the movie is superb, but unfortunately, everything else isn't what makes a movie. =/

So on a positive note from all my less positive ranting:

This sequel looks pretty awesome so far! XD

Second thoughts about the film

Avary wrote the entire script that was produced without any modifications - it's rare, but happens. As I know, it was a couple of creation: Guns + Avary. Both are guilty or heros! About other strange forces from otherworld, I don't know, but i usually blame myself for my mistakes (or my wife, my mother, etc.).

Er... the original script is definitely much different at some points from the finished movie.

I think it's good that the film drew more publicity for the series. My sister told 'em I was a fan and that it was actually based off a game series.

That's really cool my friend! And unlike incest, Silent Hill SHOULD stay in the Family! Hope she got high marks on her project....or else! :D

Well, I didn't read the script, but that's the information I got. I didn't found a link for you, and if you got some for me, please, give me. I know that Christopher were the last one included, after that, they made it all just like the script.

The original script looked almost nothing like the final version. Everything from what Dark Alessa and Sharon were to how Rose got to Silent Hill to what Sharon's illness was to how Cybil was captured and about a zillion other things were changed. The two scripts are very different.

I misunderstood, I was thinking about the script of 2006. I didn't know about this one.

It's interesting the fact that even from beginning Avary didn't want to start the film like the game. The start of the movie is good, but lead to another direction of SH1 right from the start. Will always remain the curiosity of see a movie based on the original story.

From what I've seen in interviews, the story was never Avery's. Christophe Gans and Nikolas Boukhrief wrote the story before Avery was even hired, and then Gans simply used Avery to put said story down on paper and add dialogue (likely due to Gans' and Boukhrief's poor English). I'm not sure what you mean when you say you were referencing a 2006 script. The film shot in 2005, so there isn't any version of the script older than that. If you mean Gans filmed straight from the 2005 shooting script, then that's not really uncommon at all.

Yes, I mean 2005. I read in an article (were unable to locate) that they run the movie as the script. Even after all ready, producers can cut or add scenes to the final product. We have some famous cases like Blade Runner. But maybe the gay who wrote this information was noted about this older script and remove the information...
