Starting 6th time and still got a new story [spoilers]

Post by gustavopi on Sat Jul 28, 2012 2:16 pm

I'm sharing this with the fans of this game (if you're not a fan, don't read it). I was reading about the game mechanics, the PI of the player, etc.. The author didn't focus on "do this thing to get there" but in the theory about. So I picture a character in my mind, how she would be and how she will probably proceed in the interviews and in the interactive part, and start a new fresh trial.

And a whole different story starts! I meet the "good" Cybil for the first time and the situations are different, not so deep and hard as the other times I play. I mean, my Cheryl now is more a disturbed girl instead a crazy girl (not sure if I'm been clear, but it seams really another story). I'm curious about the end, again!

This game got a lot to show, for a short game. Konami should invest on it for a new version instead mess with classics in pseudo-HD versions!

Still reading?

You know what, your use of "my Cheryl" just got me thinking about a Silent Hill game which has a Mass Effect style dialogue system in cutscenes. Not only could you go deep into Silent Hill lore (as the investigate option in ME helps you get more info on that universe) but you could possibly help define a character in a narrow enough way to keep a consistent narrative, but allow the player to get more invested (again, like Mass Effect). Obviously Downpour touched on this, but it's one of the few things IMO that was implemented quite poorly in that game.

If they do something good like this, I'd be sold. I loved Mass Effect 2.

gustavopi, could you clarify what you mean by crazy vs. disturbed?
Oh, you think darkness is your ally. You merely adopted the dark. I was born in it, molded by it--I didn't see the light until I was already a man. By then, it was nothing to me but blinding! The shadows betray you because they belong to me!

I didn't have the pleasure of plating Mass Effect or Downpour yet (need an upgrade for that...), but it seams some of SM where used. When I see the videos of Downpour, it seams they use the same game programming (same algorithms) and they probably take more from SM.

It's hard to define the personality differences between the stories, as it's hard to so a clinic diagnostic. It's even harder translating it... I was cheating with a psychiatrist past week and we talk about some "mind pathologies" that got similar effects but came from very different origins. So the stories didn't seams so different, but a closed look reveals a Cheryl with difficulties in hang with a hard family situation, or a dysfunctional family that creates a girl with a disorders of behavior, disorders of personality, probably increased by propensities.

This may cause a lot of polemic in this forum, because if you don't play a lot of this game, you can't see this by yourself, you keep only one idea about the game - happens to me!

This is the direction silent hill should go IMO.
"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. [laughs] Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like [coughs] tears in rain. Time to die."

I think (it seams to me) that it's their intention, but apparently this team miss a better "tech support" on the execution. Also the Konami's marketing is weird to me.
