About the Red Pyramid...

Post by schlaufuchsMIKE on Thu Jul 05, 2012 12:32 pm

So, I was playing this game a couple days ago, and I went through the Hotel area again. There were a couple of thoughts while and after I watched the Pyramid Head scene. Firstly, he walked into a dead end at the end of the hall - which, considering that it's Silent Hill, that's not too weird. But, what the hell is he doing? I mean, really, it looks to me like he's just out for a stroll. He was probably really freaked out when he perceived some dude hiding out over there. I mean, he's gotta remember the last time some other dude with issues kicked his ass (times two).

He was just a mere apparition, there's many theories as to what exactly he is in the game, but the one stated by the lead designer was: he's a manifestation of a myth the parents started to keep the children out of trouble, with can be further investigated reding the drawing found in game, as well as an accretion of the events ocurring in both towns during the game.

He wants to be noticed! D: and maybe his close-up. You can't deny him that! He's just a lonely man who's misunderstood. 2 men now who have ignored him and wanted to kill him. v.v I'm sure that would be rough to have that happen every time you met someone. I think he needs a hug.

Exactly! See! :( He just wants to be loved! Just very misunderstood! [Possible SH2 Spoiler] It was so bad with James, that he forced PH to commit suicide! So sad...

Not to mention, he now has to compete with The Butcher and the Bogeyman. (I still think PH will always be the scariest of them all though.)

You know, now that I think about it, I think he was just trying to show James a little dance he designed. Of course, James kills everything he loves ;)

REVEAL SPOILER
He is usually portrayed as, at his most basic, a violent monster. A deeper meaning given to him, however, explains his existence as that of punisher or executioner. He's typically attracted to those who feel an extreme amount of guilt or have an overwhelming desire for punishment. His acts of violence are not aimed solely at humans, as he has also brought harm to the other creatures that inhabit Silent Hill.

From what i have read on various Silent Hill Websites he is attracted to characters who have extreme guilt, like in the post above. And it sounded like you were playing homecoming. Im guessing that James (?) Felt guilt that his wife had died and that guilt had attracted Pyramid Head. Thats the best theory i can think of.

I made the topic mostly as a joke, but there was something interesting someone said about it where there's this demonic entity called flauros, and when it gets caught in a triangle, it has to reveal the truth. Anyways,in SH2, the thing is constantly killing Maria, in effect showing what he did to Mary (and with it's head stuck in a triangular object and all...).

In any case, he doesn't really fulfill a similar role in Homecoming, but I'm not going to be a stickler about it. Homecoming is a pretty good game, and it already gets enough hate.

Yep! Pyramid Head is a manifestation of the persons guilt. He takes on the role of executioner, (like the Executioner from The Order and why he looks like one), as the character feels they need to be punished for what they did. It was this way with James, PH was manifested from Jame's guilt for killing Mary.

It was this same way with Alex. PH was manifested from Alex's guilt for killing Josh, AND the guilt of Alex's dad, Adam, Thus the reason PH kills him Adam later on. The wiki explains it all as well. ;)

Well, considering it's just speculation, no one is wrong in this matter, but no one is right either. It has not been said his true meaning. But that's the symbolism that I believe. *shrugs* It makes sense in my honest opinion.

Buuuuuut, until then, I'll just stick with PH needs some lovin'. :D

I had a girlfriend once who said he looked like an abstract phallus. It kind of makes sense with some of the sexual themes in the game.

I like to think of him as James' super ego trying to override his id (the role of which I believe is fulfilled by Maria).

I've always thought that old version of PH without a helmet or face but just some kind of trunk looked rather phallic...

We do know the helmet was chosen because its corners and bulkiness imply feelings of pain and heavy burden, so you might wanna reconsider your moves in bed Mike :P

Aren't PH (SH2) and Bogeyman different entities anyway? I wouldn't think Bogeyman would "feel" the same way as PH or anything. Unless you guys were all just joking and I'm just a party-pooper.

They are completely different, even Ito stated there where other PH's appart from the ones in SH2, don't you think he would've not agreed to do the japanese cover of Homecoming and other artwork if only the two PH's in SH2 existed?.

I don't even know why people keep having this discussion when it has been said what the purpose of the bogeyman in Homecoming is by Double Helix and Ito already said that the ones in SH2 aren't the only ones.

Yeah, I'm fully aware of all that, which is why I made that post. I was raising an eyebrow as I skimmed this thread since I thought this was all common knowledge by now, lol.

Heh heh, I was just joking around about the fact that Pyramid Head is just kind of not doing anything, walking down a dead end in the Hotel.
