I don't like Homecoming because it's too linear, not scary compared to the older titles (IMO), the combat is weird (I like the mechanics, but the moves are too 'badass'. I was almost expecting Alex to do backflips at one point ). There's not enough interesting oterworlds (they are too short and not very interesting, minus Hell's descent). The story is ripped off SH2, it feels too caricatural, we can't really explore the town, it rips off the movie many times and it doesn't have this 'macabre beauty' the older games had..

But as a game I enjoyed it. There's some good moments and it's fun overall but It's a terrible SH game IMO. Downpour at least succesfully got back to the survival horror roots and tried to do it's own thing.

I just started playing SHH about a week and a half ago and at first I was skeptical of it just because of all the negative reviews it has gotten. However now that I'm playing it and I'm actually almost finish with it. I think it's actually a really good game. I think people are right when they say that it doesn't really feel like a silent hill game, but if you look at it as "it's own game" and don't try and group it together with the other SH titles it's a really cool game. I'm enjoying playing it, it took a little time to get use to the dodging and attacking. Once I got that down it made the game really fun to play. I'm looking forward to playing through it again once I'm finished with it. For all the people turned off to it by all the negative reviews and what not, I say give it a shot you might end up really liking it. I think if you start playing it with the mind set that it's going to be bad and you won't like, you probably won't. You have to give it a chance, it grows on you once you play it for a little while. Cause to be honest once I started playing it I wasn't sure if I'd like it or not, but I kept with it and now that I'm better with the dodging and attacking, I think it really kicks ass. If you haven't played it yet, and haven't do to all the criticism that it has gotten, go ahead and play it. I think you will be pleasantly surprised by it. That is my opinion anyways, it does seem like the general consensus is that you either like this game or you don't. It doesn't seem like there is a lot of middle ground when it comes to SHH. I highly recommend it to any fan of SH or just a fan of survival horror games in general. I hope what I wrote turned some of you nonbelievers out there into believers (that it is a good game that is worth a play, or simply giving it a chance).

I thought it was a solid addition to the lore and the gameplay was fun to me. There were a few graphical quips that got me, but overall I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was one of the first games I got for PS3 and I played it a whole lot before I was able to buy more. I think the monster design is some of the best and most creative of the series.

In all honesty, it was the only one (besides SH4) that ever scared or unnerved me. That's just me. The drill scene was intense.

One of the things I hated was the Order soldiers. Fighting real people was a huge disconnect for me. That was the only thing I really disliked about it though.

Pretty much this, except the last bit. I didn't mind fighting real people in the game; made it a bit more intense for me.

Anyhow, SHH was the first game I'd bought and played for the PS3, and it'd been the most difficult for me to beat of all the installments monster-wise thus far. And Scarlet is my favorite boss, hands down. I loved the atmosphere and characters, and yes, even the plot twists. I'm not saying the game is perfect, because it isn't, but it might easily be my second favorite game in the series and I believe it fits right in with the rest of the SH lore and themes. It may have been a bit like SH2 story-line wise, but honestly, what's the big deal about that? I felt the two games' circumstances were entirely different from one another and unique to the protagonist, and therefore, by extension, the player.

Exactly how I look at it. In my opinion, it was a good game all in itself. But even then, I like it as a SH game. Like I said, it's not my favorite, but it's certainly not my least favorite.
