Here's the dabate. Not sure if this is under "Silent Hill 2", but is Mary related? This question has been brought up I know on SH Heaven Forums, but I haven't seen it here. What do you think? How would she relate to Adam? Is it possible that Mary is not related and this is coincidence?

Personally, I think there is a relation, though it is hard to prove, since the family is not completely mapped out. Normally there is linkaga within the games. Origins, 1, 3, and 4 are linked by mentions of Dahlia, 2 and 4 are by Walter Sullivan, and Shattered Memories is a re-imaging. Homecoming seems to have hardly any ties, except for the Order. Somehow that doesn't sit well with me.

Doubt it. Probably just named the town Shepherd's Glen and Alex's family the Shepherds to make people think OMG SH2 CONNECTIONZ!!!! Kind of like how the achievements/trophies made references to SH2.

This is pretty much how feel. If I remember correctly the family name in SHH was originally Shepard and it was later changed to Shepherd.

I doubt it too. Probably just a reference.

I'm trying to keep a open mind here. I think it could be possibly related to Mary, just as much as it could not. There's no definitive answer.

I want to say this because I've seen some people, who shall remain nameless, bash other people for thinking that maybe it is a Mary relation. Silent Hill series is full of mystery, even now. Many people have theories. Heck, there's even theories like there is not supernatural in Silent Hill.

I think it's possible. I'm not swearing it is, though. This is Silent Hill, after all.

I'm gonna put the spoiler tags around the next part I write... I'm not sure if it's necessary or not but, just in case!

REVEAL SPOILER:
Anyway, her maiden name being Shepherd would be the first thing to give a possible connection. I think there's a few other things that could lend to it. I think the Siam could be a representation of her and James, since you get the achievement "Shades Of James" - on the 360 at least - when you kill one the first time.

There's also the achievement for beating Homecoming on hard mode is "The Old Gods Haven't Left This Place," or part of that at least. In the Silent Hill 2 ending Rebirth, that's exactly what James says as he's crossing the lake from Silent Hill. And correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Shepherd's Glen roughly on the opposite side of the lake from Silent Hill? It could be that he goes to that island, but he could also go across to that.

I'm going to quote James again, but I think he also says that the gods give power to defy even death. Maybe that would simply be the ability to resurrect her - but what if it caused them to manifest as a Siam? In Shepherd's Glen and Silent Hill both. To tie the Siam thing in a little more, if she is from there, perhaps that could be why it doesn't just manifest in Silent Hill, but Shepherd's Glen, too.

That's just an idea I've gathered, though, and as I said up there, I'm not swearing it's right or that she has any connection at all, even with what I've said, but I'm definitely not swearing that she doesn't have one, either.

Good tie in with the Siam. I don't have it for 360, but I have seen that particular achievement. According to the map, Silent Hill is directly across the lake from Shepherd's Glen. Nice catch.
