I know this is a classic SH: Origins debate. Is Helen Grady dead or alive? Interesting question, since the game goes out of its way to prove that

Richard Grady killed himself, after seeing that his wife was no loger in the same realm as he and Travis.

What do you all think? There's also a theory that the woman who ran out in front of Travis in the road to Silent Hill was Helen.

This is coming from someone who only played SH0 two or three times and the last playthrough was probably well over a year ago but: At first glance, I always perceived her to be alive. The problem is, Silent Hill usually brings people with troubled pasts into its realm for redemption of the like so I can't help but to wonder if, if there is indeed anything, that his mother did to warrant her being there.

As for the woman running out in front of his car... I doubt it. I thought it was paying homage to the intro of SH1. But then again, looking at it symbolically, one could say that was his mother and that she purposely derailed him at Silent Hill so he could face his troubled past with his parents once and for all.

I always thought she was still alive but dead in a sense that she's forgotten herself and everyone around her. I can see the whole it's Helen running in front of Travis' truck to make him face his past but I'm in the camp that firmly believes it's really Alessa seeking help to stop her mother... but like Ratio it's been a bit since I've played so I could be horribly wrong :\ Was there something in game that made you think "hey it must have been Helen!" in front of his truck and I totally missed it (haha I wouldn't be surprised it's not one of my favorite games!)?

Nothing that stuck out. I just thought about it because it couldn't have been Dahlia. She was at the fire, apparently climbing out of the second story window. It could have been a projection of Alessa, because it's gone, when he stops his truck and looks out. Not too sure, though. Just thought about throwing Helen in there. Travis saw the memory of him and his father standing, presumably at a funeral, before he saw the figure running out into the road, and I assumed the funeral was for Helen, in a manner of speaking. Whether it was a real one, or a fudged one, because Richard told Travis that his mother was dead. Just somethin' I thought I'd toss out there.

But he does see Alessa's reflection in the side mirror of his truck when he exits, right? I'm pretty sure it was her.

Don't know. I have to replay that game, but it looked, for a brief second, like someone that was taller than Alessa was, and they were wearing a brown (presumably) overcoat with a hood. Alessa was always seen with the school uniform on. That is the only thing that doesn't make sense.

Hmm.. Yeah, that's true... Still, for it to be Helen would be a bit random. Especially since she's not even Travis' final revelation.

Pretty sure that was Alessa who ran out in front of the truck, considering she was in the mirror AND she was the one getting up from where the figure fell down. As for Helen, I believe she's dead. Mainly because "Bring me my son" was written in massive amounts of blood, presumably hers, so I like to think she cut herself and bled to death in the womens bathroom. Not to mention the boss later is called Memory of Helen Grady, meaning it is a memory of her, she is no longer living, or that's what I take from it at least.

Brown overcoat? well that settles it! It was Douglas. He mentions when he and Heather are on their way to Silent Hill that he has been there before. Seriously though, I would have to argue that if Helen was alive that she would not be able to transform into a monster/torture device and attack her own son. I don't give a flibby how crazy she was.

That's the thing. None of what happens in Origins, meaning all the reminders of Travis' suppressed past, is possible. Alessa is using his curiosity and guilt to lure him in. It would make sense for him to see something that wasn't really there, like Helen. Seeing Alessa running out into the middle of the street is almost too movieverse, since the movie just came out in 06. I don't think it was a movie reference, but I'm not sure. It shows in the opener that whoever it is is wearing a good or has hair falling in their face. Alessa is not wearing a hood, nor is her hair loose enough to fall in her face.

The Douglass theory is interesting.

I had another theory that it was Vincent, then I realized it was more of a wish than a theory. Nothing would please me more than to see that pencil necked masogynist run over by a truck. Hey Vincent! The 1800's called! They want their clothes back. The last time I saw a man that flamboyant he was coming out! Hey Vincent, too bad Claudia killed ya! Iwas gonna have my 83 year old grandmother do it!! Sissy! Man do I hate Vincent!

Well here´s what I think:

Travis at the end killed her... for real. Remember how dear vincent told heather about the monsters. I´m aware some hate him, for some reason, but he makes a point. "Monsters? Do they look like monsters to you?"

I got the the idea after playing for the 4 time SH3. I also got the help from one of the Owl Waxer videos, he truly makes a point.

I am a bit ambivalent with this. Playing the game, in my mind she was dead but I just have no evidence to back it up. So it possible she is alive. But I don't think it a matters because if she is alive, nothing changes. In my mind at least.
