They act so cause 66 percents of then Alessa/Cheryl/cult-centered (sh, shpn, sh3, sh0, shsm and even shh). Sh2, sh4 and shd are (cool) separate stories. There is a reference in sh:the arcade (monsters), if it counts (if someone even consider thearcade a normal sh game).
There's also an apartment in Downpour that you can go into that is a replica of the apartment from SH4. It's right behind the movie theatre, through the alleyway. You need a harpoon or something to get the ladder down. There's no real reason go in there though. You can't do anything, just look around.
I will not do that to SH4 its better of the way it is lol adding more to that very simplistic room would remove the what made me play that game the way i did but just for the hell of it i did imagine it.

I know what u mean but if done right the concept alone would make it stand out. Of course it would have to match the originals premise.
I don't think any of the games need a remake as they are holding up well on their own, but i do feel that maybe having the character start off by riding thru South Ashfield as a small throwback to SH4 would be a nice touch or maybe have him/her read about the murders that happened at those apts a few years back.
BoM Has the sword of obedience and dem ghosts. Other than that, I don't know why there aren't more references. It is THE single scariest SH game in my opinion. Those fucking two headed babies get my shit goin.
You don't see a whole lot of references for 3 either. I think because 3 was a sequel to 1 and 4 was a sequel to 2, they get a bit less recognition. What you usually see pulled from them are little things (like Alessa and Cheryl looking like Heather every time they appear now and the sects of the Order being revisited in Homecoming). Not to mention, Downpour cameo'd 302, which is more than they did for the other games in DP imo.
I think that weird 'double head' thing later in the game is creepier. The one that looks kind of like a twin victim, but has the torso coming out of the bottom and only one head up top. Especially since the first time you encounter it, it comes out of fucking nowhere, making a horrible noise.
Don't forget the Upside Down room in Downpour!! You walk in and have to press a button to flip it right side up. That's a referkce to one of the rooms in SH 4 in the Building World that was also upside down.
