Character Design

Hi^^ This is my very first post:D
I was just curious if anybody knew who actually designed the characters of SH4,
especially henry and eileen, both are my favorites to this very day.
I searched, and found a list of character designers, bit have yet succeeded to find out who actually designed them,
like sketches and stuff.
Hope someone knows.

Very happy to join this forum^^

Henry was a character?
I love the Silent Hill Series. The new games did nothing wrong whatsoever, they were developed well, and did things different. I believe that Silent Hill Downpour will make all Silent Hill fans happy. Team Silent doesn't exist, but their series does.

But yeah, I don't know this either. Maybe it's in the manual? I'll look later.

Shingo Yuri did the character design for Silent Hill 4, Masashi Tsuboyama did the monster design for SH4, he was also the art director for SH4:

You made me laugh lol
I believe Henry's character was dead long before the moment we start controlling his persona, maybe "five days ago"

You could always see him express his feelings through his eyebrows LOL

Yeah thanks, I thought it was Shingo, too bad there isn't much to google about his work(on SH4)QQ
I've always though SH4 had too few official picturesˊ ˋ

Those are official sketches, Aherd.

There's a bunch more creature sketches if you scroll down to about halfway on this page but not that many. I don't think there really are character studies like 2 and 3 had :

Akira? He's the composer ;) I think you mean Shingo Yuri, who did the character design for SH4, although I'm guessing the faces in 4 may have been motion-captured, do we know either way, anyone?

I know Ito was against it but I actually have no clue if it was used in later installments, if any of the games did I'd bet on 4 [and I think it's pretty safe to assume 0rigins did no such thing haha]

Oh, I remember that Akira(yes, the composer)was the producer of SH4, and that he mentioned in an interview about not having enough time(or in his words: if he had more time) to further develop the characters.
Sorry, what is motion-captured? :D Ito was against what!!? I never knew thisXDD
PS. This isn't off topic right?

Ah I see what you mean and I think I know what article / interview thing you're talking about...I assume what he was getting at was the actual character development, like their personality traits and history and such, something altogether different than the design.

As far as that goes I doubt they decided to just stop at Henry, he's clearly so...blank for a reason. Or perhaps there was at some point some buried truth from his past he was supposed to unravel [such as being the re-incarnation of Walter *ghastly whoooo* and that's why he's at all the crime scenes and why he keeps seeing lil' Walt and why we have nothing whatsoever to go on about his past...or maybe not]

Anywayyyy, motion capture is the technique that's used to record movement to process into 3D models in video games. It's used for all 'normal' movements in Silent Hill, such as walking, fighting, aiming a gun, rowing a boat, getting keys out your bra etc. Many games also do this with character's heads and faces, but it creates an unnatural look as it can only capture so much, that's why Ito decided against it, and wisely so.

Wow, thanks for explaining all this^^
So SH4 could have been motion-captured?
I think, in motion, it has the best character detail and expressions of the whole series, after downpour.
