Bulletproof Vest

Post by ZombieKillerXXX on Tue Jul 17, 2012 4:12 pm

I recently started playing SH3. I haven't played it in about 6-7 years, so it's basically like playing it for the first time. I remember very little about the game so to me it's like I almost never played it to begin with. Anyways, I'm having a good time playing it which is kind of weird cause I don't remember liking this game a whole lot. I'm really glad that I decided to give it a second chance cause it has been pretty enjoyable to play these last couple of days. I do have a question involving the Bulletproof Vest. This is more of an opinion type of question, but I just wanted to know what your thoughts were on it. Is it better to wear the vest an run a little slower, and take less damage, or is it better to just forget about it so you can run faster? I'm wearing the vest right now but you don't know how many times I've thought about taking it off. Right now I have just made it past the Subway section of the game, just to give you an idea of how far along I am. I can't wait to hear what you guys/gals think out there in the SH community.

Thanks Mike

Just my preference, but I prefer not to wear it. If you want to take less damage it's easier to just outrun them. You still take some damage with it on and you can't outrun them, bigger chance of death. That's just how I look at it. :)

Like I was saying I just got done with the Subway portion of the game. I started playing again about an hour ago, and in the Underpass section I was getting hit quite often while wearing the vest. Anyways I decided to take the vest off and start over from my last save point (right before the underpass). I ended up cruising through that section in like 10-15 mins without taking any hits (mainly do to my increased mobility). Now I'm at the Hilltop Center and I'm going to continue without the vest from now on. I think the vest may be a good idea if your in a part of the game where you have to fight something and there is no easy way around it. For the most part you can just run around everything, but for those times you do have to fight (or want to fight) it might be a good idea to put it on then. Other than that I came to the realization that it's just not worth it 95% of the time. I'd rather be more mobile.

Thanks Claudia,
Mike ;)

With the vest, best to take it off in the streets and areas with room to move around in. If you're trying to avoid monsters and you're good at dodging, leave it off for a bit. I usually wear it for some of the boss fights since if you parry while having it equipped, you only take like 0.01% damage of the full attack. If you're in one of the game's many tight, enclosed, claustrophobic areas, you can also keep it on since Heather can only run so fast inside anyway.

One small tip: If you're in one of the outside areas, and you're trying to speedrun or just wanna get from point A to point B as fast as possible, don't be afraid to use an ampoule since doing so will max out Heather's stamina and stay that way for like 2 and a half minutes.

Yeah that is the conclusion I've sort of came to. Use it basically when your going to be fighting or when your in a tight area where running isn't really an option. I didn't even think of using one of my ampoules, there one of those things that I'm actually kind of scared to use. There isn't that many of them and it always seems like you should be saving them for some real hard part of the game or a boss battle. The funny thing is, it seems like at the end of the game you always end up with like 3-4 ampoules that you never use. At least that's how it is almost every time I play a SH game....always have unused ampoules at the end. Thanks for the suggestions NarooN, I appreciate it.

When I found it, that is what I did with out even really thinking a whole lot about it. It's a "Bulletproof Vest", why wouldn't you want to wear it right? I thought at first that it didn't really slow me down that much, but was I ever wrong. Taking that vest off made it easier to maneuver around and run 2-3x faster. I'd say don't feel like your obligated to wear it. Wear it when it makes sense to wear it, when fighting, when your in a tight area, etc. Break the "force of habit"...

I know this topic maybe old as heck, but don't you ever, ever, ever wear that vest during the insanity mode on the last boss. You you'll be crying tears of saddness with it on BELIEVE ME!!

I like how you called it "Insanity mode" lol. It's true, though. Extreme mode is just ridiculous.

Right now I'm playing on "normal" difficulty and "normal" riddle difficulty and I'm finding it responsibly challenging. I couldn't imagine playing on "extreme" difficulty. I'll probably feel differently about that after I make it through the game a few times, but being that I haven't played it in so long and it feels new to me. The "normal" difficulty is just fine for now. NarooN, you should post your 10 star run through attempt on SH3 pretty soon. Cause I'm going to start playing SH3 again now that I'm done getting the 10 stars on SH1, and there is a lot of questions I'm going to have. If you start a new topic in this section there will be a place to ask you the questions that I'm going to have.

Copy that. I'll start on my playthrough tonight. I think I have a file in-progress already from quite some time ago where I'm in the latter stages of the hospital, so it shouldn't take me too long to finish that off.

Right on. I'm at the "nightmare" hilltop center right now, so I'm about have way through my 1st play through. I figure I'm going to go for the 10 star finish on this one too. I'm a ways away from that though, I just need to get through the game a few times first to get a feel for it. I am going to do some looking around to find out what it is you need to do in order to receive to 10 stars. Once I get that info together I'll let you know and go ahead and post it.

Good luck, I'll talk to you soon.
