'The Black Cat' reference? someone please explain...

Post by Robbie123 on Sun Jul 01, 2012 4:55 pm

In SH3, theres this one area, at i think the fifth floor of this construction site, where you can knock down a recently plastered looking wall with a melee weapon and it will crumble and the 'silencer' item will fall out. However whats extremely more noticable are the legs sticking out of the wall that was just smashed. Heather can examine this and will say 'just like The Black Cat...'.

I know this is a movie and all i know about it its about a guy who murdered his wife and hide her body in a wall. I googled this movie and there are like several different (what i'm assuming) versions of this movie. Which one is this game referencing? Also is it any good?

I believe Heather is talking about the novel by Edgar Allan Poe. The movies you mentioned are based on the novel. It's a good novel you should read it.
Some elements in the story reminded me of SH 2 actually.

Also, I believe that the body is a MGS reference.

It's actually supposed to be a reference to Metal Gear Solid.

But yeah, she is also referring to the Edgar Allan Poe novel like Robbie123 stated.

^Otherwise known as a 'novella'.

Anyway, somehow I always manage to miss/forget this part of SH3. One of these days I'm gonna have to get it right xD

I can see the discolored wall and silencer being an MGS reference, but how is the body part of the reference?

^ In reference to blowing up the wall to get to the hostage? No idea why there would be a black cat though? In reference to the foxhound members being named after animals? Even at 6'2" I think thats reaching. I know the official guide refered to it as the Solid Snake Silencer.

You need to read The Black Cat. It makes perfect sense why Heather would think of that.

I thought she was referring to the common superstition about black cats.
