Sorry to be a complete Necro but I've been a way for while.

To answer your question revil yes it can be activated in the PC version using cheat engine

Pretty insane how we're still finding stuff in these games 10+ years later.

That and the fact that people love it enough to keep tearing it apart after so long. It's amazing.

I wish they actually implemented this in the final product, it would have been way better than pulling up the map screen every five seconds to figure out where you are/ where to go.

It's great that the fanbase is still so dedicated to the games.

I think getting lost helped with immersion.

and how it immersed me. Having to turn on the flashlight to look at the map or actually standing under a light was one of my fave features in SH2. Know where you are and attract enemies or run through the darkness and end up yet in the wrong appartment again, lol :D

I knew about it, don't remember my original source though. Googled it and found this as first hit:

The Silent Hill wiki links an even earlier upload:

But couldn't find much into on it so, thumbs-up on your post, always good to get interesting information spread around. :)

The first link is my video and the second was a quick tutorial showing how to do what I did in my video (Credit to Nekorun in the description)

Kinda messed up that the wiki links to the tutorial instead of the actual discovery video but to be honest I don't mind.
