Is it the creepiest part of the game to you?

Those narrow hallways in the prison always got to me. Enclosed spaces...

I actually look at the hotel as a huge Breather Level. The hospital and prison and catacombs are moderately intense and full of mindfucking physical sorcery. The hotel is quite sedate and peaceful by comparison. It's well-lit even in the shifted version, has much less nightmare architecture and fewer enemies (though mannequins are used to particularly good effect throughout the level).
The above post is intended to be factual, unless it isn't.

For me the action is sort of over after the Eddie fight, James is much more conscious when he enters the hotel and everything from the music to the whole gloomy overall mood to me is rather relaxing compared to the whole section from leaving the hospital to leaving the historical society / labyrinth / prison, which is James at his most frantic.

I still don't understand why Angela's monster appeared in the hotel. It's not like James really had anything to do with that creature or anything it symbolized (besides oppression, perhaps.)

Well, Angela is in the hotel too, so maybe they appeared because of her presence.

Also, like some mentioned before I too consider the hotel a breather level.

Yeah, the hotel turns out to be a lot calmer than previous "levels" as James becomes more focused on his goal. For me the apartments and Historical Society were the creepiest.

I saw it as almost a challenge projected from her world to his. She accused him of being a "disgusting pig" like her father was when we first see Abstract Daddy, and that she knew what he did. Maybe the accusations were in the back of his mind afterwards.

The hospital is creepy, the nurses jack me up . They scare the crap out of me, and I usually can play silent hill anytime an not get scared. But them creatures in the hotel creep me out , you can't really get around them, and they just latch onto you

Not until he watches the videotape and the hotel reverts back to its true, decayed form. I agree with the others that it was a strangely tranquil area. It was like the calm before the storm.

I always thought of it like Silent Hills boundaries were breaking down and things from other peoples "otherworld" were slipping through to James' version. Like how through out the game you could see small parts from the other characters otherworlds. Seeing that part of her world now leaked into his.

In a way I think it is for me, too, just because it's really nice to have a breather. But I also feel the most sad when I go there, especially after the cutscenes with Laura where she gives James the letter from Rachel's locker and with Angela on the flaming staircase.

Is the hotel the place where you have a random chance to hear Mary's voice yell "James!" somewhere in the building? Does anyone have a sample of that or something?

The only "breather level" for me is the boat trip. Really. I don't know why, but I feel that after the drama and the horror in the previous parts, it's just so relaxing and soothing. But I agree with Waverer. The nostalgic hotel before seeing the videotape isn't specifically scary, but it's depressing, and it makes me feel that I'm very close to the end and James will discover a sad truth.
The whole game is crazy scary. The abandoned dark apartments, the mental hospital, The historical society with "Misty Day" and other wierd paintings and stuff, the whole uderground parts, especially the prison, and the hotel with the "Black Fairy" after watching the videotape. Even the streets are scary with the flying manniquins and the crawling demon patients everywhere, not to mention all the creepy noises and screams you hear throughout the whole game along with the creepy and annoying static of your radio.

Like a flame burning away the darkness, life is flesh on bone convulsing above the ground.

I would have to say that, either the Hospital, or Labyrinth areas, were creepier for me (or even the apartments). Like a lot of other people on here, I found it to be mostly more of a breather level. It definitely has it moments. I was not too excited to have to leave all of my possessions behind in the locker in order to go down the employee elevator. Not to jump games, but I found the Grand Hotel in Homecoming to be substantially creepier than the Lakeview Hotel in SH2.
