i have not heard of that. it has a good name. downloading.

Thanks for taking me up on my recommendation. :)

I strongly encourage everyone to check that film out. If you don't want to watch it, at least read the plot summary somewhere. I picked it up at Big Lots on DVD for 3 bucks a few years ago. It should be easy to find... especially if you find it like keeps is.

@Jack Ketch is there any site "Another" can be downloaded or did you use torrents or something like that? Been meaning to check it out...

Pretty evident the original poster has long left the building but just for the heck of it, and since we've only had about 87 topics about this :

A Tale Of Two Sisters

Altered States

Angel Heart

Begotten

Black Swan

Box & Cut

City Of The Living Dead / The Gates Of Hell

Coraline

Dellamorte Dellamore

Don't Look Now

Hansel & Gretel

Identity

Inferno

Inland Empire

Maléfique

May

Memories

Nightwatch

Noroi

Return To Oz

Riget

Session 9

Suicide Club

Suspect Zero

Suspiria

Tesis

The Abandoned

The Beyond

The Changeling

The Company Of Wolves

The Fog

Tideland

The Wicker Man

Twin Peaks : Fire Walk With Me

Another anime series that I'd recommend is Satoshi Kon's Paranoia Agent, it's not as hardcore horror and dark as Silent Hill is but it has a similar kind of psychological theme. I definetly think it would appeal to a lot of SH fans.

Ghost Hound as well - I guess the same can be said as above, it's not really the gory kind of SH-horror but I do think it's the type of anime SH fans are likely to enjoy. It's light-hearted at times but does have its horror moments as well. All in all it's sort of a Lovecraft-infused story in a rural Japanese setting dealing with themes of reincarnation, identity, unseen worlds, playing God...it's very contrasted in a way as well, religion VS science, fate VS free will, old ways VS new ways etc, kinda like Lost in that sense [but only in that sense].

Just a random thought, since someone mentioned Silence Of The Lambs and the insect room, and this always bugged [] me - I've always believed it's a reference to Dario Argento's Phenomena [it's about a girl that can telepathically communicate with insects], the same room also uses the same type of lighting Suspiria does, and we've had a bunch of other Argento references throughout the series.

Antichrist is an amazing film, it really really reminds me of Silent Hill. The movie is so dream like, and the characters are so removed from reality, it feels like they are in a world just like SH.

Seriously, I don't mean to sound immature but as much as I liked the story of Antichrist and its general themes, thought it had some good visuals and agree many SH fans would feel the same way I just plain skipped it because seeing Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg naked for about 50% of the movie was just plain nauseating to me...

Even though this movie isn't horror-based, for some reason I couldn't stop myself from sharing it.

Pleasantville. I watched it again for the first time in about 7 years and I had forgotten how amazing of a film it is. It's very surreal and dream-like. It's very whimsical, really. The fact that it takes place in an "alternate universe" for the most part triggers a sort of Silent Hill-esque connection.

As poorjack said above relating to Antichrist, the characters in Pleasantville are also removed from reality (their mindsets mimic that of a '50s television show). Throughout the film, there is an "otherworld-like" transition that occurs gradually.

Yeah... my connections are a bit loose, but check it out. I considered making a thread about it, but blah... I don't think enough people have seen it to talk about it (just like Audrey Rose). I watch odd movies.

Quick note:
My browser's acting up and won't let me properly edit my post, but I found Audrey Rose on Youtube. It's in the public domain now so you're free to watch it here.

Antichrist is still awesome, despite Willem DaFoe's white butt hole staring you right in the face so long.

Oh I agree, it's not quite like recommending A Serbian Film to people without saying a thing, but still...I just felt a word of caution was in place.

BIG word of caution for "a Serbian Film" however, the film is a great one (with a bit of an unearthly Silent Hill feel) with lots of emotion, but a huge HUGE amount of sexual violence.

Serbian Film is only one thing, A PIECE OF SHIT. I don't see how people see something great in it. I find it insulting and just wrong. It represents most of the things I find wrong with horror movies these days.

A Serbian Film has lots of emotion? Since when is a bull-viagra-induced rape spree considered an emotion?

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Dean koontz Phantoms in this thread. As movies go,its probably the closest you'll ever get to the games, aside from the official tie ins.

Damn! you got there before me!

I looked through every post to see if anyone else had noticed this movie.

The opening to this movie gives off plenty of Silent Hill vibes and I found it on Youtube :)
The jeep, the 'quiet town', empty streets and especially the 'darkness' looming over the city :D

Wolf Creek.

No, not really.

However, it has a very isolated, claustrophobic, and foreboding atmosphere that reminds me of being totally alone and vulnerable.
