Parasitized Doctor: Why did they disappear?

Post by _Bleaux on Sat Mar 31, 2012 7:04 pm

I've been trying to find an answer to this question for years, the question of why are there no Doctor type enemies past Silent Hill 1.

The only thing I've been able to dig up to suggest anything is this.

Image

It says, "In respect to the Otherworld, the creature does not appear in the later works of the series."
I've never quite got this or how using the effigy of a doctor as part of a nightmare is disrespectful while a nurse is not.

I was especially surprised not to see doctors represented in SH3, especially since Alessa befell most of her suffering at the hands of doctors instead of nurses. I personally think the variants would have added a bit more variety to the monster variants in some of the variants.

Not to mention I genuinely found the doctors more disturbing then the nurses.

Anyone have any sort of theory to this or can I just chalk it up to Team Silent being a bunch of pervs who would rather make sexy nurses then doctor monsters.
I am the Third, a master, a sentinel of awakeness.
I hold truth like a torch, shadows flicker before me.
Rapid eyes follow the train of thought, until the silence ends.

I don't know. In SH3 the cult has a picture of a doctor that was risen to sainthood in the Order. Maybe that has something to do with it. Or, Team Silent thought that there were too many 'medical' type monsters as it was and the general consensus at the time was that players enjoyed the nurse monster better?

The word 'respect' in that sentence is not used to indicate the sort of respect you're thinking. It's another way of saying "In regards to," or "Concerning,". It's actually rather a nonsense sentence in English. It's basically just saying that the doctors don't appear in the Otherworld in any other games.

As for why there are doctors only in this game, the likely explanation is that in the first game, the doctors and nurses are real people pulled into the Otherworld and infected by parasites (in the same manner as Cybil), rather than the manifested entities they are in all other games.
The above post is intended to be factual, unless it isn't.

I missed the doctors as well. Really added to the variety of the enemy types. Although I think it can be agreed that nurses appeared way too often in the series, the doctors should've been in 3 at least.

I always took it as a metaphor for 'demonic possesion'. Especially, since they seem to be close to the incubus in that regard. The worms on the head of the monsters could be "parasitic" or a metaphor for that too.

Imo, they simply forgot about them so they made up an explanation for it. Nothing like the parasites ever show up again... Except the fetus in 3. Fetuses are by definition parasites. But the theme wasn't as deep as 1's.

Lol, try not to let too many pregnant ladies know that. They might get offended! Lol, "Hey Daisy! How's the parasite coming along?"

I'm serious,btw, by medical definition. I don't think this is a coincidence considering it's a direct sequel to 1.

It makes sense since a parasite is an organism that feeds on the other organism. It gets nutriment from the host.

It's a shame that we didn't had doctors in other games, parasite doctors were creepy.

I know it's true by definition. Most people don't think about it that way often, lol. It's hilarious when you do though.

I didn't think they were as creepy as the nurses, but they always give me the 'this one is more dangerous' effect. Even though they aren't any more dangerous I just always become more cautious around. Maybe because there aren't as many of them as the nurses so it makes them feel like a more powerful creature?

Huh there's a fetus in 3?

I always thought the parasite doctors and nurses symbolized the hospital staff being on White Claudia...IMO Lisa has no idea she's spent 7 years taking care of Alessa, and it's not so much the fact that she died that made her forget 'all that weird stuff in the basement', she basically took care of Alessa in denial and numbed herself with the White Claudia in order to do so. She just reached a moment of...clarity towards the end and realized the madness of it, which is what we see on tape. Lisa says she's 'like them', I've always assumed she meant this in the sense that she's drugged up and under the influence of Kauffman & The Order, she just hadn't realized it because of the stress she was under. She was never posessed and all those doctors and nurses aren't randomly dead, that made the most sense to me...?

Anyhoo, SH2 made the nurses iconic. They had boobs, the doctors didn't. That's about it, I think...

Fetus in SH3 was at the end of the game in the church. You didn't see it? Was a pivotal point in an important cutscene lol.

I always thought of it as partly because nurses were more important in the game (because of Lisa being an important character because of caring for Alessa) so nurses became more iconic to the series and also because, by the time SH2 came around, the graphics were better and they just scrapped the male doctors in favor of sexy female nurses since they could do more believable cleavage by then.

Doctors would have made more sense for SH2, considering James' frustration with the doctors inability to cure Mary's illness. Kind of a missed opportunity, now that I think of it. The nurses may have fit in with some Red Pyramid raping, before they lost some of their files. *shrug* I dunno. Seems like another missed opportunity, now that I'm thinking of that... James hanging around his dying wife, seeing all the perky nurses walking around, mounting his sexual frustrations... There you have it, that's why SH2 has nurses only :)

They fit in the first game, can't really imagine them in the others. In SH3, you only visit Alessa's sick room of Alchemillia Hospital too.

Also what nur_ein_tier said.

Yeah, doctors would've made sense in SH2. James was pretty upset that they couldn't find a cure. Why wouldn't doctors manifest so he could blow their brains out? Oh right, 'cause SH2 was just sex, sex, and moar sex lol.

Yeah, especially in light of the headphones conversation and things like that, I would've liked to see some doctors in SH2. Oh well.

I enjoyed the noises the SH1 doctors made.

This all has a very simple answer.
The answer can be found below.

Wait lol now I know what she meant haha.

TBH I never paid too much attention towards the end, I think mostly because the church and nowhere sections basically provide us with most of the juicy information, for most 'SH1-experienced players' at least, I imagine. To me the game is over in a way before the final boss fight and events directly leading to it (...there's a fetus in SH3?), but now that I think about it, that's actually true for most of if not all of them [to me, that is].
