It is a PS3 thing. Happened when I tried to play it as well, so I went back to the PS2.

Yeah, PS3 emu bug. Very annoying, happened to me like four different times when I played it on the PS3.

I'm glad you loved SH1. It's one of the last ones I played, but it's one of my favorites. SH2 is great, but the thing about it is that after you play it enough times, the impact isn't as great. It's one of those games that's incredible the first 4 times, but after that, it's not as good. I think SH1, 3, 4, etc. are better in that regard. At least that's how I feel about it.

About how I feel about the game. When it first came out I thought it was amazing and it captivated me. But over the years and after playing the other games in the series some of its flaws just became more apparent and it just kinda waned on me. Still there's just something about SH1 that none of the other games have managed to top so far.

That's why I've never returned to SH1, it left such an impact on me when I played it back when it first came out that I just know I'll tarnish my memory of it if I try to replay it now. I had no idea what Silent Hill was when it was released, it just seemed like Konami's attempt at a Resident Evil clone from the GamePro review I saw, so I was completely sucker punched when I did play it and found such a smart, unpredictable psychological horror game which was like nothing else I had ever played. I'll never forget that moment where you're in the school's clock tower and hear the siren and upon exiting, you find the entire world has inexplicably shifted into this dark, twisted version of itself. It seems like such a predictable element of the Silent Hill games now but back then, when you weren't expecting it, it was a complete mindfuck.

Weird, I've always felt that Silent Hill 2 had the most replay value of the series. I haven't finished any of the others more than once, but I've played through SH2 more than six times and it still fascinates me. But then again, I'm one of those people who just don't really care that much about the cult stuff.
