Just completed Silent Hill for the first time! (SPOILERS)

Post by NoddingPenguin on Mon Feb 27, 2012 9:00 pm

I really enjoyed this game; my plan is to go ahead and play 2-4 too. I don't know if these games are any good, but I want to play them none the less.

My biggest problem was during the Cybil boss fight. I had zero health packs/drinks and managed to unload every single bullet on her to no avail. That was after 6 hours of playing. I tried for hours to beat her but I couldn't do it. I even resorted to looking for cheat codes but found none. I'm glad I didn't because if I beat her using cheats I'd have hated myself. So I decided to give up and go to bed.

The next morning it really bugged me that I didn't finish the game. So I picked it back up again, tried to beat her twice more but there was absolutely no way I could do it. So I started all over, from scratch. Over 6+ hours scrapped. I started again and knew exactly what I was doing this time and found various things I didn't see before. This time, however, I was in hoard mode. I promised myself I wouldn't fire a single bullet, saving each and every one I found for the boss fights which is what I did. I also found the bottle and red liquid in the hospital which, because of a guide, I found out you could use to save Cybil and get a better ending... but I wasn't going to do that. Even though I'd get the bad ending, it was my natural ending. Plus I wanted the satisfaction of winning that fight.

I ended up getting back to the Cybil fightafter about 4 hours, absolutely destroyed her and the rest is history! :D

Great game, love it. Going to wait until the HD collection before I play 2 or 3.

I enjoyed reading that XD XD

I admire your attitude to using cheats, I feel the same way. Be sure to let us know how you get on with the others. Avoid spoilers!

I don't think it's really nessecery for you to add the spoiler tags on the account of they're in your title and the game is 10+ old.

I was playing SH1 for the first time again, and I had the reverse problem. Had plenty of health items, but next to no ammo left. Had to resort to melee weapons, I remember now just how tough this part was.

Nice job, refraining from easy cheats. There is actually an extra OPTIONS menu where you can adjust the ammo count on bullets you get to x2, x3, etc. on replay games. There are some other settings too, like changing to FPS mode for the camera.

Uhhhhhh yes...........yeah they are. SH1 however is still an unmatched classic and is still the best game in the series form top-to-bottom far as I'm concerned. 2 I would say has the best story though, it's certainly the most coherent narrative.

Thanks for the read.

Always enjoy learning about people's 1st time experience with this series. Especially if it's SH1. :)

I'd recommend, don't even bother waiting.

Considering what they've altered for the HD set, just go ahead and start playing the PS2 or PC versions ASAP. When/if you do play the HD version of SH2, be sure to start out with the 'Original Voices'. It can be no other way.

True.

Do yourself a favor and stay away from anything SH2-related though.

The thing with Silent Hill 2 & 3 is I don't have a PC capable of playing games (hell, I'm on Linux just now). I have a PS3 but it's not backwards compatible with the PS2. I have a PS2, but my controller is broken. So my options are get the HD Collection with reworked graphics and sound (not sure how I feel about that), or get the PS2 games and a new controller. if feel like the second way might be a bit more expensive. I'll have a look around though.

Yes, avoid spoilers like the dickens. I got spoiled for 2 my first-time through and the impact wasn't as hard.
I'd say 3's the best, though.

And don't wait for the HD Collection! I'm really excited for it, but if it's your first time playing, definitely go for the originals, especially considering the original voices for 3 won't be available.

Hmmm...idk....if you want to help out konami a bit, i'd say get the hd collection...since you have the option for both the new voice actors or the old (i actually like the new VA for james) but i'd probably prefer the old VA because the weird voice acting in the older games give them a certain charm about them and you could probably still find SH2 &3 dirt cheap at gamestop...and just buy another controller for your ps2...you really can't lose either way... ;)
Knowledge, Wisdom and Understanding....these are the basic fundamentals of life....

If you can't amaze them with brilliance, baffle them with bulls**t...

Cybil isn't THAT hard. I mean, all you need to do is just shoot at her with the Shotgun and strafe when she shoots. And when she runs out of bullets just walk backwards, still firing.

Welcome to the forums, by the way.
I love the Silent Hill Series. The new games did nothing wrong whatsoever, they were developed well, and did things different. I believe that Silent Hill Downpour will make all Silent Hill fans happy. Team Silent doesn't exist, but their series does.

Thank you.

But in regard to Cybil, I had no Shotgun shells, I had 6 rifle bullets and about 20 handgun bullets. If I shoot her with every one of these bullets it isn't enough to kill her so I have to resort to melee weapons which, with zero health and zero health drinks, is next to impossible. The second time around when I saved all my ammo it was easy. In the game I was at the point where if she so much as slapped me, I'd die.

Just wanted to make a general comment that when you save Cybil, you get the bad ending, not the good ending. But it's still my favorite.

It's ok, she was just joking.

It's safe to look at, that's not really the way Mary died.

No, you can't save Cybil in order to obtain the BAD ending.

Unless you mean the BAD+ ending, in which you must indeed save Cybil.

I LOVED THE FIRST GAME!!!! By far and away my favorite. I never had to fight Cybil though.. Both times I played through and got the good ending. Honestly I don't even know how to get the other endings, and frankly I don't really want to know. It seems more natural to just play it through and what happens, happens.

Just completed Silent Hill for the first time! (SPOILERS)

I bought 2 & 3 a couple years ago at Gamestop and they were about $30 each at the time. My first experience was with SH4 (the demo scared the crap out of me and my friends at my birthday party. I was young at the time lol).

I played SM before I had the opportunity to play the original. Nothing was spoiled, really. I got Silent Hill last year and I absolutely loved it. I had an odd glitch playing on my PS3, though. When you fight the first winged creature in the diner, upon firing the first shot, I get this low pitched "BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMF" sound. I have to save and re-load to get it to stop. I think it's a PS3 thing.
