Midwich "Revisited"

Mercury originally started a post titled Midwich and this was his first post from that thread.

I never noticed this until now, but does anyone find it odd that Midwich has no kitchen or cafeteria? It has bathrooms, a locker room, an infirmary, a teacher's lounge, even a courtyard! However, there are no traces of a kitchen or a cafeteria. :\

It's weird that there isn't one just because even Alchemilla has a kitchen. Where do the kids eat? Do they bring their own lunch and eat it in class? Very strange.

Below is what I posted to his thread. Sense the whole NO cafeteria thing got me thinking, I also noticed the fact that there is no gym or track for that matter but there is a locker room.

That is weird that there isn't a real cafeteria anywhere. What is more shocking to me is the fact that there is a locker room but there is no gymnasium to speak of. I never attended a school that didn't have a gym. A normal gym with some basketball hoops, maybe some bleachers for a prep rally's, etc. I mean why have a locker room when there is no gym, and come to think of it there isn't a track outside or anything like that either?!? Where are these kids getting there exercise? What do they just go into the locker room and change for P.E. and then go out to the courtyard? This doesn't make any sense what so ever. For me, not seeing a gym or track for that matter is more unusual then not seeing a cafeteria....especially when they have a locker room?!?

This is my question what is more weird in your opinion? no cafeteria or no gym/track.

I know, I'm putting WAY to much thought into this, but I just wanted to see what other people thought.

Well to rain on your parade, there might have been a track or field or something behind the school, in the most S/W-ern corner of the map there is a small building we were supposed to visit at some point during development and we might've known.

Perhaps they didn't teach PE at Midwich itself, but at some nearby other location. The lockers could be for general use [weren't they upstairs?].

Eating is much more important than exercise. Though it's kind of conceivable that they ate lunch in class. I remember I had to do that when I was, like, eight.

Your not raining on my parade, I actually thought of that too. That there might be a track or something behind the school that you just can't get to. The main reason for posting this was just to get a general debate on the "no" cafeteria/gym or track issue. It's not suppose to be a real serious topic obviously, as it doesn't really matter that there is no cafeteria or gym/track. I just wanted to see what people here in the SH community thought about it. That's all, and nothing more. Thanks for the replies so far.

Do elementary schools have tracks these days? I can think of 3 o 4 elementary schools where I live that have nothing of the sort; only the high school had a track. The elementary schools all had playgrounds instead, usually with some basketball hoops.

Though I figure they just weren't thinking too hard about PE when designing Midwich. Maybe there was a big ass playground behind the school, where we can't get to. That is crazy, the similarities are spot on. then it could just be a coincident. Good find none the less.
