Google says "This site may be hacked"...?

Post by reguluspastor on Tue Jun 27, 2017 1:30 pm

I just Googled the forum to get to it, and the search result for it says "This site might be hacked." When I clicked on it, the info page said that something might be up with it; and not to use it perhaps, until the message disappears from the result. Anybody know why this might be? – ЯР

I first noticed that when I looked the place up on my phone a while back. When I opened it I got redirected to something but I closed before I saw what, could have just been a google warning. I haven't had the issue since but it still says that on Google.

I don't know if anyone else has a similar hypothesis to the google warning, but since it still says that I might as well bring it up. I've noticed image.ibb is used on this site and it appears to be listed as a malicious site by antivirus programs (at least malwarebytes which is what I use). I've also seen it mentioned that the image hosting site earned that tag as it has been used to spread malware in the past. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

I usually get a list and Guns, Violence and Hate were among four reasons.
When I was at a friend's another forum I visit had a ban because of a malware worry.
I have not had these problems on my home Internet router.
No results found for oohfakanorus.

I have also gotten said text under the website's title when googling the forum name. It's been occurring for about four months now. It's strange as I've never seen this warning before anywhere else

I haven't heard this from many people so it still makes me suspect it's a problem with their computer/browser and not the site.

Likewise, people have told me the same about the FB page, and it sounds exactly like they are describing mobile browser viruses, which I can't do anything about.

The Valtiel virus? :)

I've had that type of warning too on sites. Usually, it's fine.

I noticed that the cached version of silenthillcommunity.com has a "HEY, NEWCOMER" message that's not there when I visit the site directly. This sort of difference is referred to as "cloaking" where the content served to a user compared to a Google bot differs. More info here: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/66355

Google has its own Transparency Report page that will tell you if it thinks the site has malware.
https://transparencyreport.google.com/s ... munity.com

I get a "No unsafe content found" message.

In order for the "This site may be hacked" message to be removed, the site owner needs to register their site with Google Search Console and needs to request a formal review: https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/190597. I don't think the message just disappears one day.

I've personally never registered a site with Google Search Console, so really can't say what's needed.

There's also an issue with this site using HTTP and not HTTPS, so modern browsers will say the site is insecure. Login credentials can be intercepted that can be a problem for banks and such. The worst that could happen here is someone hijacking your account, but I guess still a problem if that account was an admin account.
